Finally, after seven excruciating nights, my detentions with Umbridge were complete. I no longer had to look at another blood quill ever again, and I was glad for it. Draco, knowing full well how stubborn I could be, opted to tend to my wound himself instead of trying to convince me to go to the hospital wing. Whenever someone asked about the bandage wrapped around my hand, Draco would send them a gare that would scare even my father. It was a sweet sentiment, and I was glad that he was there to spare me from making up some ridiculous lies.
"Umbridge has been appointed Hogwarts High Inquisitor." Crabbe stated, dropping the paper he was reading onto the table.
"What?" I questioned, looking up from my Defense textbook.
"What does that even mean?" Draco asked, glancing at Crabbe briefly before turning back to his potions work.
"She had the power to inspect and sack the teachers." Crabbe shrugged.
"That pink hippo is going to ruin Hogwarts." I murmured, reading through a paragraph about werewolves.
"With our luck, she'll be inspecting professors in every one of our classes." Goyle scoffed, making me groan.
"I hope not." I stated, clmy Defense textbook. Without another word, I stood up and made my way to the divination classroom. The boys easily caught up with me.
"How long have you been at this post?" Umbridge sounded from within the classroom.
"Brilliant." I muttered, stepping into the class and settling in my seat.
"Ah, good morning Miss Littlesea." Umbridge smiled tightly at me.
"Professor." I nodded at the pink toad. "Good morning, Professor Trelawney."
"Morning dear." Trelawney greeted. "Would you mind helping Mr. Malfoy out with this lesson? He hasn't quite got it yet."
"Of course not, Professor." I smiled, turning to Draco.
"Well, Mr. Malfoy, it seems you need extra help." I teased, looking down at his textbook.
"I do not need extra help." He scoffed, copying down some notes.
"You do, dear." I laughed, placing a kiss on his cheek.
"I just want to pass this class." He groaned.
"And you will, because I happen to be wonderful at Divination." I stated matter-of-factly.
"You're wonderful at everything." He mumbled.
"Could you please predict something for me?" Umbridge asked Trelawney, silencing the class.
"I'm sorry?" Trelawney asked.
"One teensy little prophecy?" Umbridge pressed. Trelawney seemed taken aback at the request.
"With all due respect, Professor Umbridge, prophecies cannot be told simply because someone asks for one." I spoke, earning a glare from Umbridge.
"Pity." She mumbled, scribbling on her little clipboard. Umbridge turned on her heel, headed toward the classroom door.
"No, wait! Wait, no. I- I think I do see something. Yes, I do; something dark. You are in grave danger!" Trelawney sputtered in an attempt to save her job.
"Lovely." Umbridge said, continuing her walk out of the classroom.osing
========
Unfortunately for me, Umbridge did happen to be inspecting each of my professors at the same time we had classes. After spending all day hearing her grating voice, I was eager to get dinner and head to the common room so I could read by the fire. However, with the way my luck was looking, that didn't seem to be an option.
"What's going on?" Crabbe asked, grabbing me by the arm and tugging me into the crowd of bustling students.
"It's Professor Trelawney." Cedric informed, walking ahead with Cho and Harry.
"Sixteen years I've lived and taught here. Hogwarts is my home." Trelawney cried, nearly falling over her packed trunks. "You can't do this."
"Actually, I can." Umbridge stated with a smile. Suddenly McGonagall shoved past me and wrapped Trelawney in a hug, shooting daggers at Umbridge.
"Something you'd like to say, dear?" Umbridge asked McGonagall with a smug smile.
"Oh there are several things I would like to say!" McGonagall snapped. "There, there. It's alright, Sybil."
Before Umbridge could get rid or Trelawney, Dumbledore stepped in and reminded Umbridge that she wasn't allowed to banish professors off the grounds. I felt relieved when the crowd started to disperse.
"Can we please go eat now?" I asked, tugging on Draco's arm.
"Yes, love." He nodded, taking a hold of my hand.
"Finally!" I cheered, nearly skipping to the Great Hall.
"What's got you so excited about dinner?" Goyle asked.
"Nothing, I just want to eat and go curl up on the common room couch and read." I answered, smiling softly.
"She's had a long day, listening to Umbridge talk." Draco added, giving my hand a squeeze.
"I wish I could just leave Hogwarts." I sighed, settling in my seat at our house table. "I mean, I've already completed all the necessary coursework to do so."
"But Hogwarts is your home." Crabbe said, tilting his head.
"Home is where you guys are." I corrected, sipping some water.
"How..." Pansy started, sitting beside Draco. "Lovely."
I rolled my eyes, ignoring her completely. I started eating what was laid out, not really hungry but knowing I had to eat something. After dinner, I went up to the common room and curled up by the fire with a new book. Draco sat beside me, playing with my hair and talking to Crabbe and Goyle who were sat across from us in arm chairs.
"Tired?" Draco asked, leaning down. I tore my half open eyes from the book and turned to face upwards.
"Yeah." I admitted, yawning. Draco pulled my head onto his lap and continued playing with my hair.
"Sleep, love." He said, jumping back into conversation with Crabbe and Goyle.
