Experiment 626 POV
"Take him to the holding cells," The Alpha says, "We'll have my father decide what to do with him."
What did he just say? Holding cells? Like the ones back at that awful place I just escaped from? No! I won't go back; they can't make me go back. There's no way I would survive another round of those tests. I have to get away from them somehow. But can I? just by looking around, I'm clearly outnumbered; there's no way I'll make it out alive.
So then, what do I do? Making a run for it is out of the question, along with putting up a fight. The best thing to do is to wait, to bide time. But that would mean being captured, possibly even tested on again. To be a prisoner again, and right after, I just escaped. But maybe these. . . creatures can help? Perhaps they can turn me back? No, better not trust them; people can't be trusted. Though bidding time really is my only option, I gotta behave.
With that thought in mind, instinctively, I tensely lower myself onto my belly, ears lying flat, to show that I am no threat. I wait in anticipation as the two males stop talking, only to blink and stare at me. Raising a brow, their young Alpha signals for another one of their kind to come forward, but this time this wolf has a rope hanging from its mouth. I watch as he takes the rope and walks toward me, my breath freezing when he bends down to tie one of the ends to my collar. A whimper escapes me when he goes to lift the collar. A layer of dead skin mixed with pus and scabs breaks free, opening a new, very itchy wound.
"What the hell?" The young Alpha says with a hiss, quickly pulling his hand back."What is it, Jason?" The other male asks.
Narrowing his eyes, their young Alpha looks closer at the present Dr. Reble excitedly bestowed me; he inhales deeply before scrunching up his handsome features. "His collar is made of silver and traces of wolfsbane." He said, his voice laced with disgust.
Frowning, the other male comes closer to look; the scent of fresh pine and the wet forest fills my senses, making the monster inside me creep closer. Bending down, he leaned in close to my neck and inhaled the poisonous scent I'd grown used to. The feel of his breathing as he exhaled grazed over my wound and sent shivers down my spine. His earthy scent makes my toes curl and causes the beast to pace. I don't understand; what is this? Why does he make me want to suddenly go belly-side up, leaving all to bear? I don't know this, but I can't let it get the better of me. I won't be another pawn in some other game.
"That is wolfsbane," He said, startling me out of my thoughts, "But why?" He asks as he gazes at me, his deep chocolate eyes peering into my sea foam ones. It was as if the whole world had gone away; it was just the two of us, me in wolf form and a human. Such a weird combination, but somehow it seemed to fit. The way his eyes bore into mine was intense yet gentle. It was as if he could see me, the real me, not this monster I have become.
Sighing, he stands and faces the group of wolves. In a deep, commanding voice, he said. "Fan out! Do an exhaustive search of the territory. Make sure no one else has entered! Report anything suspicious!."
The pack scattered, all running into the forest and disappearing. Leaving just the three of us alone. I look at the two in awe; the power over these wolves is vital and companding, as Dr. Reble had over the facility. It creates a sour taste in my mouth.
"Alright, let's go, Ivan," The human name Jason said.
I-van? Huh, it suits him.
"Yes, Alpha."
"Pfft, come on, man, I'm not even the Alpha yet. Stop being so formal." Jason said, laughing.
"True, but you know everyone refers to you as Alpha, not your father," Ivan says as he gently finishes tying the rope to the collar.
