Ivan's POV
I watch as if in a daze as Noah shakes out freshly washed bedding and hangs them onto a clothesline. Over the last couple of days, I've watched him slowly adjust and open up in his new environment. His posture has relaxed, and he smiles more often. I often see him with Nathan and the others. A sense of happiness bursts in my chest at the sight of him finally being happy.
"My God, Ivan, you might as well be shooting lasers at him," Jason said, coming to a stop to stand next to me.
Rolling my eyes, I tear my gaze away from Noah and look at my childhood best friend. "I wasn't staring."
He chuckles, "Yeah, okay."
"Was there something you needed?" I asked with a raised brow.
"Yes, actually," he said, turning serious. "We had contact from James; he says that Noah's story checks out and that they found the burnt-down facility."
I grimace at the fact that everything he said was true. "Were they able to find anything salvageable?"
Shaking his head, Jason says, "No, everything was burned to the ground. Only the skeleton remains of the building were there."
Sighing, I rub at my eyes, turning my gaze back toward Noah. I smile softly when he peeked at me from behind his thick blonde hair. I know he feels the pull of the mate bond; I can hear his breath quicken when I step into the room and feel his gaze bore into my being. His need to be near me is evident, but I refuse to seek him out. Not yet, at least. It'll be too much for him to bear; everything is too new to him. The last thing he needs is for some person to declare their love for him.
"When will you tell him?" Jason asked.
I forgot he was here. "When you tell Nathan," I say, glancing over at him.
He glares but sighs, "I can't yet, not until my father steps down as Alpha."
"You really think he wouldn't accept it?"
"He's hard to read. I can't be too careful."
"I have to wait until Noah's ready to have a mate. I can't rush him," I say.
He chuckles at this. "Who would've thought the great Ivan would be worried about someone else?"
I chuckle at this. "Who would've thought the playboy Alpha would ever want to settle down?" I say with a smirk.
"Oh please! That was years ago!" He says with a pout.
An Alpha pouting? Shaking my head with a chuckle, I go to reply, only to be interrupted by soft footsteps approaching. Turning my head, I gaze down at the person who is slowly making me fall in love with them without even realizing.
"Good morning, Alpha Jason," Noah speaks softly before turning to me, his cheeks deepening a sweet pink. "Good morning, Beta Ivan."
Smiling softly, I savor the sound of my name on his lips. "Good morning, Noah."
"How's your morning going, Noah?" Jason asks with a smirk pulling at his lips.
"Good, Alpha. I'm on laundry duty with Crystal and Sebastian," Noah says pridefully, his chest puffing out a bit.
He takes pride in his work. Good.
"And the preparations for your welcoming party?" Jason asks.
"Nathan won't let me help out with the preparations. Something about it being tradition? But he has said that things are going smoothly."
Jason lets out a laugh before shaking his head fondly. "It is a tradition to not allow who's being welcomed in to help prep for the celebration," he said, ruffling Noah's head, who blushes fussily in return. Reaching down, Jason takes a basket from Noah's hands, which I hadn't noticed he had been holding.
