Several days later, the school finally realised that the students had actually shown up on time and decided that they would be given a welcoming ceremony in front of the entire school. I scowled as I read the notice on the notice board and turned to Laura, clutching my coat around myself tightly as we made our way towards the gymnasium where the ceremony was going to be taking place. And where we would be sitting until it finished, freezing out buts off because there was no heating in the gym.

"Let me ask you something, Laura," I said to her as we walked down with the rest of the students and she nodded her head.

"Why on Earth are we going down to the gym to welcome students who have already been at the school for a week now?" I asked her and Laura just shrugged her shoulders.

I stared at her for several long minutes as we waited outside the gym in the freezing cold weather until I felt something cold and wet hit the top of my nose and I looked up at the sky. I frowned slightly when I saw that the sky had gone almost completely black and little balls of what looked like tiny white golf balls were falling from the sky. I tugged on Laura's coat sleeve to get her attention and pointed at them as one landed on my now open palm. She blinked and frowned as well when she saw the white ball sitting on the palm of my hand and she spoke up.

"That's a bit odd. It's not meant to snow for another two weeks..." she said thoughtfully as she looked around at the other students to see if the others noticed as well.

None of them seemed to have noticed and both of our frowns deepened. Laura looked up at the sky as my eyes wandered about the students gathered before us and I stiffened as my eyes came across his and they locked with them. I cleared my throat and attempted to look away but his eyes just seemed to hold onto mine for what felt like an eternity. A shiver ran down my spine and what looked like a small smile appeared to be forming on his lips as well as in his eyes. I blinked in shock as Laura jabbed my shoulder again and I looked at her once more, breaking whatever it was that was happening between the boy and me.

"What?" I asked a little annoyed at her yet again and she gestured towards the other students.

"We're heading in," she said to me and I huffed as I crossed my arms as we walked inside with the other students, sitting with our home room class.

We sat down in our chairs and we looked up at the front of the gym where the other students filed in cautiously and so did the teachers. Last but not least came the new students who took the three remaining chairs at the front of the gym facing everyone else. The blonde girl gave a huff in frustration and began talking to the boy who was sitting beside her, who began looking around the gym as if he was searching for something. Before his eyes could find mine, I quickly looked down, pretending to examine my nails as I felt his eyes sweep over me. When I was sure that his eyes had disappeared from where they were on me, I looked up again and over towards him, yet another frown forming on my face as I watching him. Why was I feeling so curious and yet so cautious of him? He was just another student like me.

The principal began to prattle on and one about the progress of the school and how great it was. Finally, when there was just barely five minutes left until the bell went for recess, the principal decided that it would be an excellent time to introduce the new students. The principal turned to the new students and looked at them for a few moments, as if he had lost his train of thought. He shook his head and seemed to regain his thoughts before he turned back to the other students.
