I stood in front of Jasper and his father, tugging on the hem of the dress I had been given to wear.
I had never been so uncomfortable in my life. One: the dress was way too short and tight to even be considered a dress. And two: the pair of them together, Jasper and his Father, was a very imposing sight. As elegant and regal as I thought Sean Whitehall was back in the room I had woken up in, he was even more so now than before. He sat in a high backed chair, not that far off from being a throne, at the very back of what I considered to be a throne room, his elbows resting on the arms of the chair and his fingers delicately woven together. His eyes were fixed on me, just like his son's and the penetrating gaze that I was receiving from them both was making me shift uncomfortably where I stood.
The Healer had given me some strange, green concoction after he had finished tending to all of my wounds, only saying that it would give me enough strength to meet with Jasper and his father as an explanation for the drink before he left me in the hands of a maid, who I hadn't seen come into the room. I had been bathed in lavender scented oils, spritzed with some strange yet intriguing scent that I couldn't identify and forced into the dress I was currently wearing and fighting for it to be longer than my knees. They had, thankfully, given me a pair of ankle boots with no heel to go with the dress and, though I was uncomfortable, I had to say that I did look rather good.
When I began chewing on my lower lip, I earned a small smirk from Jasper and it made me want to walk over there and slap it right off of his face. He seemed to sense the direction of my thoughts because his smirk only got bigger. My hand clenched into a fist at my side as I did my very best to keep my anger under control and this action seemed to catch Sean's attention and he raised a brow at me.
"Something the matter, Dear?" he asked me and I quickly hid my clenched hand behind my back.
"No. Nothing," I replied as my hand clenched even tighter behind my back now. Sean's brow raised even further and I sighed.
"Why am I here?" I asked, doing my best to keep my tone even as I spoke which was difficult I might add.
Jasper glanced at his father after I asked my question and Sean looked at his son in return, almost as if they were having some silent conversation. This only frustrated me more and I began chewing on the inside of my cheek both to calm myself and to distract myself. Jasper sighed before they both turned their attention back to me and I quickly let go of my cheek.
"Well..." Jasper began to say and I rolled my eyes at him.
"Just tell me, damn it Jasper. I am getting rather tired of you beating about the bush around me when it comes to explaining something," I snapped at him and my eyes darted over to his father who had chuckled right after I finished talking.
"My, my, Jasper. You sure know how to pick them," Sean said as he grinned at the pair of us. I rolled my eyes at that as well.
"Why. Am. I. Here?" I repeated, emphasising each word as I looked between the two males before me.
"You are here because, at this very moment, it is the only safe place for you to be. Here you can be protected," Sean explained, his tone rather definitive and stern and I raised a brow, fidgeting with the dress again.
"Protected? Protected from what? I can take care of my damn self," I asked them as I crossed my arms over my chest, unconsciously tapping my finger against my bare arm as I stared at them, waiting for a reply.
"Protected from other vampires. There is a rogue vampire that has been hanging around our territory and from what I heard from Jasper as well as from what I learned myself earlier, it isn't safe for you to be out. You need to be kept away from him," Sean said as he leaned forward and rested his elbows on his knees.
