Saturday 31st October, 1981
Lily Potter put the twins in their beds like always. Jason on the right, Harry on the left. She kissed each of their foreheads, before singing, not a lullaby, but Hey Jude, because that was one of the only songs that will make them fall asleep. She hears a yell from downstairs, and despite being worried, continues singing. However, she stops the rocking and starts towards the door. It bursts open and Voldemort walks in. He stuns the woman, before walking over to the children. Jason starts crying, but Harry somehow stays silent. This catches the man's attention. He walks over to the crib and looks at the baby, who stares up back at him with emerald green eyes.
"Hello Harry." The baby giggles in response. Tom smiles and changes back to his more human form. He turns to the other baby.
"Shh, shh. It's alright. I'm not here to hurt you. I promise."
"It's over, Tom."
The said man turns around to see Dumbledore behind him.
"Albus."
"I can't let you do this, Tom."
"Leave me alone, old man."
"You know what the prophecy states. The prophecy must come true."
"The future can be rewritten. They're babies, Albus. I won't hurt them."
"Then maybe I'll have to do it for you."
"No!"
It all happened so fast. Dumbledore pulled his wand, and fired the killing curse at one of the boys. It bounced off the boy, weakening, before hitting Tom. He stumbles back in pain, knocking a heavy book off the shelf onto Jason's head, apperating back to Malfoy Manor. Confused, Dumbledore approaches the baby. He feels the powerful energy radiating off him, the dark energy. For the first time, he feels fear of a child. This baby that deflected an unforgivable curse with only a scar to remain. He looks over and notices that the other boy also has a scar. Not lightning shaped, but he knows this baby is not as powerful or dark. He makes the desision that this is the chosen one. The boy who lived. Seeing Lily stirring, he aperates away, waiting for her to call him.

On Harry and Jason's third birthday, Sirius and Remus noticed that Harry wasn't given birthday cake. A few days later, they saw Jason hugging the gift they'd got his brother, a stuffed wolf, along with the dog they'd given him. They noticed him wearing the knitted jumper Minerva had intended for Harry. They noticed that he was only served food when he asked for it, and never got to choose the book he was read before bed. It was like he was on the edge of the family. They knew it was Dumbledore's doing. He'd been manipulating them for the past two years, since the day Voldemort died. They went to James and Lily about it, which ended in a fight with Lily kicking them out and telling them to never talk to her family again. That evening ended in the two holding each other tightly, desperately trying not to cry, however they both knew one thing. They had to get Harry out of that house.
When they discovered Harry missing, with only a note from Sirius and Remus, James was beside himself with worry. Lily was alarmed, but after Dumbledore's calming words, she accepted it. James was harder to persuade. He tried to send a letter to the two he thought of as his best friends, but stopped by his wife at the advice of Dumbledore.

Five years later, Sirius opened the door of 12 Grimmauld Place to a soaked James Potter, with a developing black eye and a flowing cut on his cheek. His puffy, bloodshot eyes show he's been crying.
"I'm sorry. Can I stay here a while? Please."
The broken look of his ex-best friend made Sirius let him in without a second thought.
"Thank you. I'm so sorry about this. About everything actually. I didn't want to cu-ut you out. I wanted to see you and Remus and Harry. Oh Harry, I should've fought for him. He's my kid. It's just Lily and Albus and their chosen one. I love Jace, but everyday he's less and less mine. He's only Lily's and now I guess he's Snape's," he's talking quickly, stumbling over words.
"Hey mate, it's alright. Just breathe. In and out. There we go." Sirius sits him down on a sofa in their living. Remus looks up from his book and is immediately on his feet.
"Prongs? What's wrong, your soaked! I'll make some tea, you must be freezing."
Almost in response to the statement, James shivers. After tea is put in front of the three of them, Sirius tells him, "Right, let's start again. Slower this time, what happened, James?"
"We were arguing. Again. It's all we seem to do now. Whether it's about Severus, Harry, Albus, you guys. We've had to put soundproofing charms on some of the rooms at night. Tonight it was about all of them. I wanted to find you guys and Harry and be in your lives again. Dumbledore tells us it's best to focus our attention on Jason because he's the chosen one. But we had two children. Harry deserved better than us. I should've tried harder. You know, we missed his first word. Because we were to busy with Jace. He started walking long before Jace too, and we didnt even notice. Anyway, then I told her to hell with what Dumbledore said, which she didn't like. And then I told her I wanted to leave her. And that's when she freaked. She punched me, and screamed and told me that she was the best I was going to get and that she had worked so hard on this relationship and that she wouldn't let me go without a fight. Only, she's been cheating on me, with Severus. And I made the mistake of bringing that up, and how I'd given up everything for her. You guys, my son. She told me Jace was my son, not Harry, which is when she threw a glass at me. She told me that leaving you guys and have Harry taken was the best thing to ever happen to us. So I left out the front door. And I didn't know where else to go, so I came here. I'm sorry. You guys probably don't even want to see me, it's just I have nowhere else to go..."
"James, you're family. We'll never turn you away. You can stay here as long as you need, even if that's forever."
"Thank you."
"First, we need to get you out of those clothes. I'm sure Sirius has stuff that will fit you. The guest bedroom is up the stairs, second on the left. Go and get dry, sleep, and we'll work out logistics in the morning," Remus tells him.
"Um, can I see him? Harry?"
"Yes."

AN- I know this part is long, I just didn't want to split it into to halves. Most chapters will probably not be this long. Updates will not be consistent. Also, I obviously do not own HP and I do not stand with JK Rowling and her views.
