Chapter 9: Pontoise

        With enough time, people could learn something that they don't know. 3 years was enough for a none native French speaker to become proficient in the French Language.

Since the first time that Galahad visited the French hunters at the Catacombs of Paris, after the first visit, he made sure that he would learn the French language and become proficient in it.

It was the Galahad's duty to maintain correspondence and cooperation with the head hunter of French hunter Ivon in France. According to their responsibility, the Galahads are required to visit the chasseurs in their church headquarters 3 times a year.

In the same situation, the Ivons are required to head to the United Kingdom branch of hunter headquarters to exchange news and keep up with the cooperation.

Galahad is now 13 years old. Since his first visit to the chasseurs, he has visited their headquarters a total of 12 times. And all of those visits are accompanying his mentor Galahad.

One particularly notable thing was unlike his mentor who already had an apprentice, the current Ivon hasn't still found an Ivon that would inherit her title once she decided to pass it or if something unfortunate happened to her.

So it was both unfortunate and lucky for Galahad that he doesn't need to spend his time talking with the possible apprentice of Miss Ivon but unfortunate for him that he needs to endure the time when he was forcibly force-fed with dog food.

Unlike before he was ignorant, in this lifetime, Galahad has promised himself that he wouldn't remain ignorant. He makes sure that he keeps eye on things and observes things. He became cautious so he can make sure that he would never be betrayed again.

Even in this 3rd life. Even though 13 years have already passed, the memory of that day was still etched in Galahad's mind.

The wound inflicted on his psyche would remain in his mind and heart forever. Even if sometimes, he wishes to forget them and just remember the happier times of his second life in the moment of his weakness.

During his first 5 years, every nightmare of his. That event always occupied his dreams in the stifling environment of the orphanage.

But even after he moved out of the orphanage and started living in the headquarters and slowly got better, sometimes, some of his nightmares were filled with the betrayal of his beloved cousin and his dear lord.

Back on the topic of being forcibly fed dog food. Since he was now being observant of this time, he noticed things that he shouldn't have.

His mentor Galahad and Ivon had a good relationship. But it appears to be more than a friendship. It was a secret relationship considering how formal and cordial they were in the presence of other hunters and the public.

It was a surprise for Galahad when he found out but Galahad was happy for his mentor and at the same time worried for them. He wasn't opposed to their relationship and was fine with it. Thanks to his first life, Galahad can keep an open mind, and as long as they love each other and was living a healthy relationship, Galahad would secretly support them. And if it is needed, he would gladly assist in the cover-up.

Considering that the hunters are under the Church and this era is still different from the modern era of his first world, Galahad could understand why his mentor and Ivon chose to keep their relationship secret.

Galahad was afraid of what would happen once the church and the other hunters learned of their relationship. Would they dismiss them in their position as the head hunters? Or would his mentor and Miss Ivon suffer more or something worse?

But today, Galahad decided to don't keep thinking about his nightmares, his possible duties, and his mentor's relationship with Miss Ivon right now.

Currently, Galahad was in France again. But this time, he wasn't in the Chasseur headquarters in Paris. But in a commune called Pontoise which is around northwestern Paris, France, and located 28.4 km in the center of Paris.

Other than learning the language of French, Galahad has delved further into other things of his interest for the 3 years that have passed.

His studies of magic and its formula, and the current higher in priority which was the Alchemy.

Indian, Chinese, and Egyptian. Galahad has tried his best of getting ahold of books about the Alchemy of these 3 cultures to the best of his ability.

Unfortunately, his financial situation has severely limited him from gathering more books about the Alchemy of these 3 cultures. And he has been stuck in his studies about the Alchemy of these 3 cultures since last year.

And about his current own culture. Well, the born alchemist from the United Kingdom, there wasn't much to learn from their writings as most of them are just hogwash, and the few who are genuine. Then, Galahad have already read their works and he could admit that there wasn't much to learn from them.

And for the Alchemist Paracelsus, other than general information about him and his life, his works regarding alchemy aren't disclosed to the public.

He was the most known and legendary alchemist of all time according to this world. Many people love and despise Paracelsus. Love him because of his brilliant mind and hate him because of his actions and the result of his deeds.

According to what he heard from his guardian Lancelot, the vampires aren't fond of Paracelsus.

In his first life, when it comes to Alchemy, there was someone who has also reached the legendary status as Paracelsus even though it was believed in his first world that Alchemy is just a hogwash and just serves as a stepping path to chemistry.

That Alchemist was popularized by several works of literature and media back in his world.

But in this world, it seems that this Alchemist doesn't reach his legendary status and wasn't even known as a genuine Alchemist at all. He was just a normal scribe and hogwash alchemist who used to live with his rich wife many centuries ago. And all of the things related to this person as an Alchemist weren't known by the people.

Galahad was in Pontoise right now because it was said that this place is the birth place of Nicholas Flamel who was popular back in his world.
