The Doctor grimaced at his hand as it started to glow. Who knew what this next regeneration would bring?
He looked mournfully at his companion.

"I recommend you stand back," the Doctor said softly, his warm, dark eyes so full of sorrow and his usual grin wiped from his face.

Thomas did as he was bade, concerned and confused by the way the Doctor was glowing.
The Doctor gave a terse nod as he surrendered to the regeneration process, his every cell setting alight.

Moments later, a stranger stood before Thomas.

"Don't panic," the Doctor told him, "I'm still the same person. I just look a bit different."
"I... thought you said that humans looked like Time Lords?" asked Thomas hesitantly.
"Wait, wait, wait. What?"
