Kiyoomi was sitting on a tall hill overlooking the Underworld in all its entirety, staring off into the distance while he contemplated his two and a half thousand years of life. In between his legs, sat the main source of his emotional troubles, a god whose beauty was more than that of a sunset over a field of bright flowers or the vast night sky dancing with stars and vibrant lights in the North.
Kiyoomi was sitting with his legs stretched out, his knees slightly bent and spread out to make room for the god of summer, who sat in between them. Atsumu was sitting sideways in Kiyoomi's lap, his legs carelessly thrown over Kiyoomi's right leg while he leaned against Kiyoomi's chest. He played with Kiyoomi's hair, braiding a few strands here and there while he hummed sweetly. Kiyoomi's arms circled around his waist to keep him stable and hold him in place.
Atsumu had just finished his third braid when he sighed and ducked under Kiyoomi's chin, avoiding the points of the ebony and ivory jackal mask as he snuggled further into Kiyoomi's chest. Atsumu closed his eyes and smiled softly, going quiet.
They sat in comfortable silence for a while – Kiyoomi drowning in the sorrows of his unrequited love as he basked in the warmth of Atsumu's presence, and Atsumu quietly listening to the steady beat of Kiyoomi's heart. After a while, Atsumu opened his eyes.
"Omi?" He called.
Kiyoomi was snapped out of his thoughts, his fingers tracing mindless circles on the piece of soft skin of Atsumu's inner thigh that was exposed by his toga, making the god of summer try not to squirm as he enjoyed the touch a bit too much.
"Yes, Atsu?" Kiyoomi answered.
"Ya've been really quiet lately..." Atsumu pointed out softly.
Kiyoomi hummed, "Sorry, I'm just... I've just been thinking a lot..."
Atsumu reached down to Kiyoomi's hand that was wrapped around his waist and began to fidget with it, comparing their hand sizes even though he knew very well that Kiyoomi's hands were bigger than his.
"Ya wanna talk 'bout it?" Atsumu asked quietly.
Kiyoomi sighed, "Not really..." He answered.
Atsumu pretended like that didn't hurt him as he looked for something to change the subject, "Omi... Did ya ever get lonely down here?" He asked.
Kiyoomi chuckled lightly, "Yeah, I guess... Motoya used to visit quite often to fill me in on the happenings of the surface word, and Wakatoshi would occasionally drop by... Of course, there's Issei and Cerberus, but Issei is always busy and Cerberus is, well...Cerberus. Other than that, I was on my own," he replied, inhaling sharply, "So, yeah, it was pretty lonely."
Atsumu hummed, "I could barely manage two hundred years... I dunno how ya survived two thousand years down here..."
Kiyoomi smiled softly behind his jackal mask, running a hand through Atsumu's soft hair, "You are friendly and enjoy the company of others, Atsu," he began, "Of course, you'd feel bad about no social activity. I got used to it quickly because I wasn't too social before becoming the ruler of the Underworld," he admitted before he added quietly, "I barely even show my full face to people."
That's when Atsumu realized that there was something that that they'd never spoken about throughout his four decades knowing Kiyoomi.
"Omi-kun," he began, "Why don'tcha ever take yer mask off?" He asked, his fingers trailing the edge of the mask that covered Kiyoomi's jawline.
Atsumu heard Kiyoomi's heart beat quicken slightly from where his head was against his chest.
"I do," Kiyoomi replied, "When I eat, sleep and shower," he added.
Atsumu furrowed his brows, "How come ya never take it off 'round me?"
Kiyoomi sighed, "I... It's not you, Atsu," he promised, "I don't really like the lower half of my face," he said vaguely.
Atsumu furrowed his brows even further, "Why?"
Kiyoomi seemed to contemplate telling him for a minute before he eventually decided, "There's a scar," he explained, "A big one. I got it during the attack on Kronos and the Titans... I hate how it looks."
Atsumu intertwined their hands before he looked up at Kiyoomi, "I don't think it would look bad," he replied before he reached up and brushed Kiyoomi's hair aside, onyx irises watching him carefully, "I don't think ya could ever look bad," he added.
Kiyoomi blinked, gulping down the lump in his throat, "Then you can take it off," he allowed.
Atsumu immediately sat up, shifting so that he was sitting with his legs on either side of Kiyoomi's torso. With hesitant fingers, he unclipped Kiyoomi's mask from behind his ears. Atsumu carefully removed the mask from Kiyoomi's face, all while Kiyoomi watched him, and gasped. Atsumu's face lit up with a red blush as he took in the sharp angular features of Kiyoomi's face and the large jagged scar that ran from the right side of the bridge of his nose, over his nose and through the left corner of his lip.
Atsumu gently traced his fingers down the scar before he looked up into Kiyoomi's eyes, "It doesn't look bad," he assured with a smile, "It shows how hard ya fought for the good of the world. I like it."
Kiyoomi stared at him in awe, a light pink dusting his cheeks, "You're amazing, you know that?"
Atsumu blushed and he raised his hands to cover his mouth as he giggled, but was shocked when Kiyoomi caught his wrists.
Kiyoomi moved Atsumu's hands away from his mouth, "Don't cover up your smile," he whispered, "You're adorable when you smile."
Atsumu just stared at Kiyoomi in shock. He'd been called beautiful by many people, yes, but none of them had ever done it with the gentleness and sincerity like Kiyoomi did. No one ever told him he had a cute smile, and no one ever took the time to actually get to know him like Kiyoomi did. Atsumu was a virgin god, but that didn't mean he planned to stay a virgin god. Atsumu had just been waiting to meet the right god to marry, and now...Atsumu thought he found him.
