Kiyoomi led Atsumu through the halls of the palace by their joined hands. Atsumu hadn't let go of Kiyoomi's hand since he'd grabbed it in the courtyard, but for some reason, Kiyoomi found that he couldn't bring himself to mind, especially when he noticed that Atsumu's hand fit perfectly in his own.
In theory, Kiyoomi was leading Atsumu, but in reality, Atsumu was dragging Kiyoomi while the lord of the Underworld told him which direction to head in. Kiyoomi realized that, much to his own surprise, he was enjoying Atsumu's company despite how bubbly and lively he was. Kiyoomi watched as Atsumu pulled him down the hallway, giggling with a bright smile on his face.
They went up the stairs and down another hallway before Kiyoomi jerked his hand back and pulled Atsumu along with it. They'd stopped in front of a large door made from dark mahogany wood and decorated with spider lilies made of pure gold, tipped with rubies, along the top.
"I think you'll like this room," Kiyoomi said while he gestured for Atsumu to open the door.
Atsumu blinked at the ruby-encrusted gold handle and reached forward to open the door. The door opened silently, barely a creak was heard, and Atsumu stepped inside curiously. The god of summer's eyes lit up when he gazed around the inside of the room.
The walls of the room were a dark obsidian, and the floor a dark shiny mahogany like the door. There was a bed against the wall with soft cotton sheets that were dyed a blood red, embroidered with golden threads woven into spider lilies. The bed frame was made of dark mahogany as well and, similarly to the door, was decorated using pure gold spider lilies, encrusted with rubies, along the top. There was a doorway against the left wall, next to the bed, with a blood red curtain hanging across it, leading to an ensuite bathroom. Soft lighting floated around the room, bathing it in a warm orange glow like that of a sunset. There was a wardrobe in the corner made similarly to the door and the bed, with dark mahogany wood and golden spider lilies. Next to the wardrobe was a dresser with a mirror that was made in the same style as the wardrobe.
Atsumu moved into the room, his sandled feet meeting a soft fluffy blood red carpet. He was quiet as he walked across the room to an archway set into the opposite wall with gold spider lilies encrusted with rubies over the top. The archway was covered by a blood red curtain which Atsumu carefully moved aside.
Kiyoomi followed behind Atsumu as the god of summer stepped out onto the balcony. Kiyoomi watched in anticipation while Atsumu raised his hands to cover his mouth. Atsumu slowly moved to the obsidian railing and leaned over it to take in the view. The balcony overlooked the Underworld. From there, they could see the five main rivers of the Underworld, twisting and flowing before they plummeted down into massive pit that led into the dark void of Tartarus. The rivers swirled and flowed around one another, refusing to mix together.
The glittery black waters of the River Cocytus, the molten fiery-orange waters of the River Phlegethon, the dark swampy waters of the River Acheron, the silvery white waters of the slow-flowing River Lethe, and the dark sluggish, corrosive, waters of the River Styx – all spiraling until they tipped into the pit. The dark rocky surface of the Underworld and the dark hues of grass and flowers glittered from the slight glow of the rivers.
It was stunning in a way that Atsumu had never seen before. The Underworld was dark and gloomy, but it was striking and bold, and nothing like the god of summer had ever seen. It was beautiful.
Kiyoomi came up next to Atsumu and leaned on the railing next to him, "Do you like it?" He asked, but, when Atsumu didn't answer, Kiyoomi bit his lip behind the jackal mask, "I could always show you another room?"
Atsumu quickly shook his head, "No! No... This- This is perfect... Thank ya, Kiyoomi," he said, raising a hand to wipe the tears that escaped from his eyes, "It's beautiful."
Kiyoomi raised his eyebrows, his gaze trained on Atsumu, "Yeah... Yeah, it is..." He mumbled, but turned away to look at the view when Atsumu looked up at him, "I guess..." He added quickly, "I'm used to it already."
Atsumu smiled as he stepped forward to wrap his arms around Kiyoomi in a hug, catching Kiyoomi by surprise. Kiyoomi hesitantly returned the hug, circling his arms around Atsumu's small waist.
"I can't thank ya enough, Kiyoomi..." Atsumu said from where his face was buried in Kiyoomi's chest.
Kiyoomi's cheeks heated up and he relaxed enough to rest his chin on Atsumu's soft blonde hair, "You're not alone anymore," he promised, "I may not be able to get you back to the surface world, but I can keep you company for the rest of eternity," he added with a slight chuckle.
Atsumu nodded, turning his head to the side so that he could smile, and Kiyoomi's heart stuttered at the pretty pink blush that dawned across Atsumu's cheeks as he snuggled into Kiyoomi's chest.
Atsumu pulled away from the hug after a while and gave Kiyoomi a scintillating smile. Kiyoomi was not at all ready when Atsumu stood up on the tips of his sandles to kiss Kiyoomi on his left cheek right above the top edge of the jackal mask. Kiyoomi nearly died on the spot from how much he blushed because of the gesture, however, the jackal mask managed to conceal it so he could bear the heat on his cheeks for the time being.
Atsumu smiled sweetly at him before he yawned softly. That broke Kiyoomi out of his stupor, and he chuckled heartily.
"Sleepy?" Kiyoomi asked.
Atsumu rubbed his eyes and nodded, his head dropping against Kiyoomi's chest again. Kiyoomi smiled and led Atsumu back through the curtains and into the room.
"You should get cleaned up and head to bed," Kiyoomi suggested, "You've had a long day, and if you'd like to accompany me on my rounds, you need to wake up at dawn for breakfast," he explained.
Atsumu sat down on the edge of the bed, twiddling his thumbs while he looked away and Kiyoomi recognized his dilemma immediately, mostly because he himself had the same problem the first few hundred years he lived in the Underworld.
Kiyoomi chuckled and crouched down in front of Atsumu, surprising himself with how bold he was acting when he gently took hold of Atsumu's chin and moved his face to look at him, "If you can't tell when sunrise is, then I will wake you up tomorrow," he promised, "Don't worry, I had the same problem when I first arrived down here too," he assured.
Atsumu's nervous gaze melted into a smile and he nodded, "I guess I'll see ya t'morrow mornin' then, Omi-kun."
Kiyoomi had to do a mental reboot at the use of a nickname before he could answer, "I'll come by to wake you up, then," he assured as he stood up.
Without thinking, Kiyoomi reached out and ruffled the front of Atsumu's hair, not missing the way the god of summer flushed pink when he retracted his hand. Kiyoomi moved to the door and opened it, though he stopped before he walked out to turn back to Atsumu.
"If you need anything, my room is at the end of the hall," Kiyoomi informed, "Sleep well, Atsu."
With that, Kiyoomi closed the door, leaving a flustered Atsumu on his own.
