"NINE SECONDS left, boys. We're down by 2. This is it. This is our season." Sean spoke to the huddle. It was the game that would decide if they would get to keep playing, trying to work their way to the championship. The Warriors were tired, sweaty, but determined, they'd played a good game, they just needed to win. "We make it or break it right here. We got time for one more play, this is how we define ourselves; this is where we decide- PAULIE PAY ATTENTION!" Sean shouted to Paulie who was waving away his pizza that he had delivered.
"Yes coach." Paulie saluted.
"We're goin Turbo stack, green four, okay?" Sean announced the play.
"What?"
"Huh?" The players mumbled, confused.
"Two limes, one hot sauce!" Laurie sighed, explaining the play in the way they'd learned a few nights prior over dinner.
"OH! Okay!" Brian spoke, understanding. The other players nodded, glad they understood.
"Bring the queso?" Brian grinned.
"Yeah, bring the queso!" Laurie chuckled. The team cheered and headed out onto the field. Connor ran out, taking his position, and stealing a glance at Laurie. She noticed his eyes and made direct eye contact, giving him a smile and nod. He sent her a smiley wink that sent chills and butterflies running down her skin.
"Down! Set! Go!" Brian shouted. He ran off, faking the ball to a teammate and running to the side where he threw it to Marcos, who expertly dodged, and ran through the players, making his way down the field. Sidelines, and crowd were screaming as the clock ran, they were seconds away from victory!
"TOUCHDOWN!"
The crowd and team erupted with cheers of triumph. The Warriors had won their first game. Laurie ran onto the field with the rest of the players and coaches towards the huddle of cheering players. Connor, meeting her halfway. She ran into his arms, him lifting her up in the embrace. Everyone was screaming and cheering, surrounding them in an ocean of noise and happiness.
"You did awesome! Warriors won!" Laurie shouted over the noise, Connor setting her down. Connor grinned in happiness and Laurie threw her arms around his neck. Connor blushed and butterflies erupted as he laughed with joy. He hugged her waist, spinning her around, the both of them laughing with glee.
Bizone was splashed with a cooler of Gatorade, still cheering with victory, and Connor and Laurie walked off the field, his arm slung around her shoulder. A smile, printed on both their faces.
