Two Years Later

"On your feet Soldat," Agent Gusin ordered as he sauntered into Xpel's decrepit cell.

"The jet leaves in fifteen; be ready," He stated, pushing the file that he held at the young girl before departing the room without a second glance.

This short interaction had become the normality between Xpel and her handler. She had come to expect no communication except the bare minimum.

She flicked open the file, scanning her eyes along the page. The file contained very little information, only enough for Xpel to complete the task. A blueprint of a building showed her target with a note paper clipped to the top:

'Retrieve all data back to Hydra.'

Easy enough, Xpel thought to herself. She had done many similar missions over the past two years - Break in and copy any files onto a hard drive before disappearing into the night, before the chosen target even realised their network had been breached.

Xpel quickly changed into her combat gear, stuffing the blueprint from the file into her pocket before being escorted to the jet by two armed agents.

Agent Gusin stood up from his seat as the jet neared the targeted location. Staring down at the young girl with a sinister smirk, he asked:

"You know your purpose, Soldat?" To which she replied with a sharp nod.

"Good. Remember who you belong to..." He trailed off, pointing at the scar on her wrist, which enclosed the chip in her arm.

"Hail Hydra?"

"Hail hydra", Xpel muttered in reply. She could not remember the day they had inserted the chip into her arm or what it was for, but they had constantly reminded her of it before missions. Perhaps it was to track her if she ever got into trouble?

Xpel silently crawled through the air ducting, shimmering her body against the cold metal, remembering the route from the blueprints.

She peered through the grate down into a high-tech office when she reached the correct air vent. Once she was confident the room was clear, she moved forwards in the vents before kicking down with her leg, causing the air vent to swing open.

She dropped into the room below, landing silently in a crouched position on the white tiled floor.

As soon as Xpel was certain no one had heard her, she slowly stood up, removing the night-vision goggles and placing them on top of her head. Her eyes scanned the room containing a master computer with multiple monitors, with a door opposite leading to a small server room. In the middle of the room sat a desk with various piles of files.

Stalking over to the desktop, she removed the hard drive from her pocket and plugged it into the main drive, and within a couple of clicks, the computer started duplicating the contents onto the hard drive.

LOADING DATA (15 MINUTES REMAINING)

■□□□□□□□□□

Hmm, 15 minutes, Xpel thought as she spun around before approaching the stack of files on the table. Perhaps there is something valuable in them, she pondered as she aimlessly began flicking through the files, biding her time as the computer loaded.

Her browsing ceased halfway through the stack of files as she stared at a headshot with her own eyes staring back at her. Why did they have a file on her? In an instant, she jumped up to sit on the table, opening the file to read what information they could have on her.

Xpel's face twisted with a mixture of confusion and shock as her eyes fixated on multiple surveillance photos of her fighting a man in a blue costume. She instantly recognised the location as an old Hydra base. But as she searched her mind, she couldn't remember the encounter with the man dressed in blue. Thoughts raced through her head... Who was he? Why couldn't she remember?

With a shaky breath, she flicked to a document that should have contained information. However, most of it was blank...

NAME: UNKNOWN

AGE: UNKNOWN

EXPERIMENT: PROJECT XPEL

ABILITIES: SUSPECTED TELEKINESIS AND ENHANCED STRENGTH (POSSIBLE USE OF SUPER SOLDIER SERUM)

LOYALTY: HYDRA (POSSIBLE HOSTAGE)

Xpel's mind spiralled in confusion as she attempted to determine what it all meant. Why couldn't she remember the blue man, and why did this file state she was a possible hostage? Her mind filled with doubt about the organisation she had pledged her alliance to.

Suddenly she was brought out of her thoughts as the sound of the door down the hallway opened and closed. Quickly she darted to the computer, disconnecting the monitor so that the screen went dark as the system was still working on copying the files.

As footsteps approached the room, she ducked under the desk, hoping that her dark attire would keep her hidden. Hearing the footsteps near the room, she glanced back at the table to her file on the desk. Quickly she raised her hand, using her abilities to force the file through the air and into her outreached hand.

Sorry for the re-upload... I used a type font changer on my computer for the file section but didn't realise this changes when you look at it on some phone 😬
