"I said get on your knees!" Xpel barked at the older man, kicking the back of his knee so that he fell forward. Sweat glistened on his forehead as his eyes projected fear as he landed on the floor with a grunt.
The apartment complex stood silent on the still January night, causing Xpel to realise she would need to speed up if she wanted to be gone before someone in a nearby apartment called the cops.
"Now, I'll ask you again - What do you know about project Xpel? I know this has something to do with the Winter Soldier." She attempted, pacing around in front of the cowering man. This was the 7th 'leed' she had tracked and 'visited' in the past month, yet no one had answers for her.
"I don't know anything. I swear," he replied as he began physically trembling.
"You were one of the workers. You must know something!" She shouted, losing her patience as she punched down on the wooden table that sat on the side of the open-planned living room, causing it to break in half as the man pathetically whimpered.
"I don't! I swear! Please, I have kids. I have a family..."
"Yeah, well, I might have had a family..." Xpel angrily mumbled.
The noise of a car pulling up outside pulled her from her thoughts as her enhanced senses listened in to the noise outside the apartment.
"Wait here," she ordered as she began walking away toward the side back window, only to turn back to see the man had slightly moved.
"You move a muscle, and I will come for you," Causing the man to abruptly nod, fear evident on his face. She was surprised he hadn't pissed himself, she thought with amusement.
Peering her head out the window to the street below, her eyes noticed a taxi with two drunk girls stumbling out.
Happy that she hadn't been compromised, she turned around to see the living room empty... idiot.
Xpel sprinted out of the apartment and to the flight of stairs; hearing the man's footsteps a level below, jumping down the steps, she quickly caught up with the injured man. She saw the man's face fill with terror as he looked over his shoulder.
Speeding up, he reached the door to the exit. Just as his fingertips brushed the door handle Xpel threw the door open with her mind, causing the door to collide with the man's forehead with so much force he crumpled to the ground, out cold.
"Don't say I didn't warn you," Xpel muttered as she lowered her raised hand, taking her gun from her belt and shooting the man dead as she casually walked over the body, fleeing the scene.
