It will be fun , they said.
You should really get out of the house , they said, completely ignoring the fact that Henry had left the house more than once that very day. He had gone running with Kal and Delilah and he had been grocery shopping because all his family together ate enough food to feed a small army and they needed to replenish their supplies.
We just need to toast to our newest family member , they said.
There is rugby on , they said.
3 hours later, Henry was brooding in a pub and seriously questioning his life choices.
He was also well on his way to being completely and utterly wasted but that was another thing entirely.
Village Gossip. How he had not missed that.
"You have a face of thunder," his little brother exclaimed as he slid onto the seat next to him, exchanging his empty glass of Jack Daniels with a new one. "You needed to get out of the house, Hank. We don't want you to turn into a hermit."
Actually if being a hermit meant that he got to spend the evening with Delilah and Kal, Henry would have been quite content with that.
He could have read his newest fantasy book, but instead, he was stuck at that pub. And if Simon made another comment about him being in denial , Henry wanted to hit his head against the wall.
Instead, he just took another gulp of his glass, feeling the alcohol burn in the back of his throat. He probably shouldn't drink as much as quickly as he had, though Charlie continued to ply him with whiskey. Why, was anybody's guess.
"I have been out of the house more than once today," he gave back mulishly. "I took both your kids' grocery shopping with Delilah and me. And now I am...sitting here, while two of my brothers are sharing war stories, Simon is playing dart and you are..." he trailed off, waving around his hand
"Not anymore!" Simon said happily, clearly already at least buzzed, slipping onto the seat on the other side of him. "So. About your denial, " his brother started once again and Henry just glared at him.
"I am not in denial, " Henry gave back sharply. He was not. And he would just really like his brothers to leave him in peace. But he knew that was something that did not have a good chance of actually happening anytime soon.
And that was mostly because, in his family, nobody could leave good enough alone.
At least it was his brothers...Henry had already nightmares about what would happen if his sisters-in-law got their claws into him. He was quite sure that not even trained assassins would be able to stand up to Brianna's interrogation skills.
Instead, he got his brothers. Who were around as subtle as a horde of bulls in a china shop. It was something, that much is certain.
And then Charlie just grinned brightly at him.
"He's not. He actually realized by now that he loves Delilah," Charlie told Simon and if looks could kill, Henry was quite sure that he would have been able to eviscerate his youngest brother on the spot. But Charlie happily ignored him and then Simon was already slapping his back and was overjoyed.
"Oh my god, you do!" Simon said far too loudly and Henry wanted to hit his head against the bar. Maybe even drown his head in some more Guinness and Jack Daniels.
