"Hello, Mr. Cole...and company," My voice was confident, proud even though I felt the complete opposite. He was out with a young woman, about our age group who I've seen around campus. I believe she worked for the Government Department. A short little Indian girl, with long hair down to her butt, very slim and meek-looking, with her slender features, straight nose and brown lips. Her big brown eyes looked onward, shyly. Muma looked uncomfortable, but I'm sure mi look worse right now since shocker than me you cannot find. Malikai walked up to them and clicked fingers with Cole and gave the young woman a handshake.
"Good to see you Miss Outar," He smiled, "Cole you brucking out Miss Outar man!"
Mr Cole's eyes were avoiding mine at all costs, "Yuh done know colleagues enjoy a good Lyme and chill after work, Bridget had a particularly tough day today with a rude student, so Miss Colene and I say mek we carry her out."
The guilt was unbearable now that I understood what was happening. He was out with a friend in need. And here I was with Malikai on the same day I told him I couldn't go out with him. Never felt more like a john crow in my life!
Miss Outar stood there, quiet and awkward like a captive and I wanted to grab her hand and run off to save us both from this encounter.
"It's the same here, Miss Nichols was minding her business when she saw me in a little situation and took pity on me by taking up my offer for drinks." He grinned, taking my hand in his again. I looked over at Malikai hiding the dread behind my eyes with a smile, letting go of his hand to playfully punching him in the arm.
Smooth, Anashe.
"Yeah, Malikai here has a love triangle dealing with," I smirked.
"Ah I see well then in that case, don't let us hold you guys up, we are still waiting on Colene." Cole quipped. "Which one of the restaurant's unno going?"
"We going over to Tamarind— the Indian place," Malikai answered sounding every bit of calm and collected.
"Alright Boss, well if anything when Colene fawud we all come up, I'll call Miss Nichols to let her know if Colene agrees with that venue or not."
"Ah, ah."
"Alright guys, take care!" I waved at them. Turning away I dropped the fake smile and finally allowed my face to look as terrified as I felt. Rass! Fuck!
Malikai walked just beside me as we headed up the stairs to the restaurant. I wasn't speaking, just lost in my thoughts.
The look on Mr Cole's face was pure shock and let down. Below that alpha male exterior was a man caught off guard!
For some reason though, regardless of him being blindsided, it didn't seem like he was shocked to see me out with a student... his shock looked more like he wasn't expecting that student to be Malikai.
In the restaurant, we sat inna the corner. The wall beside us was glass. I glanced to left ever so often to peek at his face as he combed through the menu. They had Asian fusion here as well, and a fully developed bar menu. The restaurant was quite small, had around six tables, and they had Buddha plastered everywhere. It smelled of turmeric and pimento. It had a pleasant smell. It made me think of home when mommy used to have me rolling the roti while she flipped them on the stove. At Home was always my safe haven... I can't wait to get out of Kingston for a bit.
"You're too quiet," He sighed while reading through the menu. Looking over at him, I noticed how calm he looked and it annoyed me.
"You said I was safe—"
