This is awkward.
Just as I knew it would be. Lee-Ann was hosting this dinner with Kai, myself and her new boyfriend, Raymond sitting beside her. Raymond's bright green eyes and his pale skin matched exactly the type of man Lee-Ann seemed to like...not to mention that he was in his thirties, tall, muscular with a full beard. She liked them young...
So from what he's gloated about so far at dinner, he's young, rich and shockingly...white. Works in finance, owns a massive Variety Store in halfway tree that makes him millions and he met Lee-Ann at that store, shopping for a toilet- plunger. A truly riveting story. Lee-Ann's eyes, no matter how many times I looked away from her, once I looked back, they were still on me. She clearly had something on her mind.
Kai is beside me and I know he noticed too because his hands never left my leg under the table. I had it extended in his lap since he was sitting across from me, next to Ray. I'm not sure why she seated us like this, but she was at the head of the table, I was by myself over this side and Ray and Kai were next to each other on the other side. He rubbed the soles of my feet gently, to ease my discomfort.
I didn't imagine spending my Sunday night like this at all, but we had canceled on her last minute in the week. Thinking back to that day also made me sick with fear. That day was heavy. Kai told me that Scamma was in an altercation with some of Biggs' boys, and he went to assist. Thank goodness he was able to de-escalate the situation. I know how much Scamma means to him. I don't know how serious it was, but he told me it was handled amicably.
Good.
He's yet to make amends or quell this thing with Biggs though. A part of me feels like it's a little of my fault. I'm sure he lost a very lucrative business relationship because of this whole thing with Sabrina and me. Even though I've done nuttn to this girl than to date Malikai afta she.
We've established that she's slow...But that Biggs is so friggin...dark!
"Baby, are you okay?" He asked me from across the table, which made his mother and Raymond pause to look my way—ahh shit. Hurriedly, I smiled and nodded. So far I've managed to finish my appetizer and got halfway through my main course with just smiling and nodding, but now the spotlight was on me. Thanks a lot, Kai.
"Is the food not to your liking, Anashé?" Lee-Ann smiled, coyly at me. She was being very friendly during this whole visit. From she opened the door and saw me on Kai's arm she plastered a fake smile on her face that never left. She was good. I see why Kai valued good PR and body language training. His mother, clearly had it down and perfected!
What a perfect politician.
"No, not at all, I'm just thinking about my to-do list."
"Ahh, yes, writing speeches for me and lecturing must be very time-consuming," She smiled. "Speaking of, I find it quite odd that throughout these months you never mentioned once that you were dating my son."
Mhm...and here we go. My heart was beating out of my rass chest! But mi wol mi composure.
"I asked her to keep it between us," Kai jumped in, calmy, eating a fork of his Ceasar salad. Her eyes moved from me to him with her brows knitted. Raymond and I looked at each other and it was almost like he felt my pain. Him look like him wah cut too! Yes, Ray, meeda like fi disappear from yasso, too!
"And why would you ask her to do that?" She scoffed, shirking. "Don't tell me it was something you thought best kept from me? Your own mother?"
"Honestly, there are certain things that I'd rather you not know about," He uttered, " Although no matter how I try, Lee-Ann the all-knowing seems to always know everything."
