Tommy always preferred Wilbur to Techno. It wasn't that he didn't love Techno, because he did, but he would always choose Wilbur first. Wilbur and Techno were twins, so Tommy wasn't sure if Wilbur could ever feel the same way, but he didn't mind much. Tommy was eight and Wilbur and Techno were fifteen, so there was quite a big age difference but Tommy knew they all loved each other just the same. What Tommy didn't know was that his brother, Wilbur, was struggling. He was struggling in a way Tommy would never be able to comprehend at his age. "Wilbur, You promised! What the hell am I gonna tell dad? I trusted you." Techno whisper-yelled, trying to keep quiet enough so that Tommy wouldn't hear but Tommy always heard. Tommy often stayed in Wilbur's room rather than his own. Tommy's room was clean and cluttered but organized. Wilbur's was... not, to say the least. Wilbur's room smelled awful, his floor so messy it was hard to see any of it. Random piles of clothes all over his floor, all of them dirty and stinky. His bed had pillows and blankets messily scattered around, never washed or re-made. His bed had crumbs and random objects in it that Tommy would hit throughout the night. However, Tommy would always prefer to sleep in his brother's room, no matter how disgusting it was. Wilbur always swore it was never this bad, and that he would clean it, but he'd been saying that for 2 years. "Don't tell dad, please, I'll do anything, I swear," Wilbur whispered back, Techno in his doorway and Wilbur in front of him. "No you won't, Wil, You're a liar!" Techno spoke with his hands more than his voice. "Listen, can we talk about this sometime else, Tommy's sleeping-" Wilbur tried to say, but Techno cut him off. "I don't know how the hell he even sleeps in here. You're disgusting Wil, I'm serious. Even if I told dad he wouldn't be able to find them because of how messy it is in here." Techno snapped back. Tommy didn't know what he was talking about but whatever it was it must have been serious because Techno was mad. "Okay, thanks, dickhead. We'll talk about this later." Wilbur said, annoyance and hurt coating his words. He shut the door before Techno could protest. Tommy opened his eyes more now to see what was going on better. As soon as Wilbur shut the door, he turned his back to it and slid down the door, his face in his hands. He sat there on the floor for probably only a minute or two before getting up, opening his top drawer, grabbing what looked like a small baggy, and leaving his room to go to the bathroom. Maybe the baggy was what Techno was mad about. Tommy didn't know why he would be upset about that, though. Wilbur had been gone for a while, and Tommy decided to go back to his room to get dressed. Tommy got up from Wilbur's messy bed and onto his messy floor. Tommy always thought of leaving Wilbur's room like a video game where if you touch any of the actual floors, you lose. It was an incredibly easy game and over time it would get easier and easier. Tommy always mapped out where he would go so that he wouldn't lose the game, he would step on a pillow, a plate, jeans, paper, books, or anything so that he could win the game of leaving his room and making it to the hallway. Eventually, Tommy got to the hallway and did a small victory dance. "What are you doing?" Wilbur asked from behind him, his footsteps so quiet Tommy didn't even realize he was there. Wilbur looked sad today, Tommy mentally noted. His face was pale as a ghost and more broken out. He was tall, but had bad posture and was underweight. He had brown curly hair, but he didn't brush it or shower often so his hair was less fluffy and flatter. He had dark brown eyes that Tommy used to think were bright and happy, but now they were dull and sad. "I won the floor game so I'm victory dancing," Tommy replied, proud. Wilbur looked at him funny before replying, "Okay, then," walking into his room, and shutting the door behind him. Tommy walked into his room, refreshed at the change of setting. He loved Wilbur, and he loved spending time with him just as much, but his room was disgusting. Tommy felt like he could breathe easier and he could walk around freely without the fear of stepping on something. Tommy put on his signature red and white baseball t-shirt and blue jeans, not like he was going anywhere, but it was nice to wear clean clothes. It was a Saturday, so he had no school to be in but he didn't have much to do. His dad would be at work for the next hour or so, as it was already noon. He walked to the kitchen, hoping there would be some type of breakfast already made rather than having to make something himself. Luckily, Techno was sitting at the kitchen table eating pancakes. "Hey, Toms," Techno said, the stupid nickname Wilbur made years ago still being used. "Hey," Tommy said, upset at Techno for saying mean things to Wilbur that morning. "Something wrong?" Techno asked, easily able to identify Tommy's less cheerful and more angry tone. "I'm fine," Tommy responded, making pancakes with his back turned to Techno, not wanting to look at him. "Tommy, you can tell me if something is wrong. I won't judge you." Techno replied, honest. Tommy wanted to yell at him. Instead, he told the truth. He didn't want Techno to worry about him, let alone upset him. "Why were you upset at Wilbur today?" Tommy asked, not in an upset tone but a curious one. Techno's eyes widened, and his shoulders slacked even if just a small amount. "Is that why you're upset? That I was upset at Wilbur today?" Techno asked, leaning forward. Tommy shrugged. "I guess. I don't like it when you two fight." Tommy responded, honestly. "Why were you upset? You said he lied but he doesn't ever lie." Tommy asked, Techno still hadn't answered why he was upset. "It's not important, Tommy. I was upset for a stupid reason." Techno said, tensing his jaw and clearly lying. "Yeah, but why?" Tommy asked, not letting this go. "Why what?" Wilbur asked, peeking his head into the kitchen doorway from the hallway. "Nothing," Techno responded, side-eyeing Tommy. Wilbur looked suspicious but didn't ask any more questions, the conversation was stored away for another day. "When's dad getting home, Tech?" Wilbur asked, grabbing a glass. "One or two. I told you that this morning." Techno said, annoyance in his voice. "Sorry," Wilbur said, sounding like he felt bad for forgetting. "Can we do something today? It's boring here." Tommy asked, trying to break up the awkward silence that filled the room. "What would we do? Wilbur probably won't agree to do anything, anyways." Techno said, now focused on something on his phone. "I would too, it just has to be something we all actually like doing," Wilbur said, offended and glaring at Techno. "We could go to the movies or something. Or even just the park?" Tommy suggested, knowing they would both say no to either of the options. "We have no money to go to the movies, Toms." Wilbur reminded him. "And it's too cold to go to the park right now," Techno said, not taking his eyes off his phone. Tommy knew it was pointless. There wasn't really any reasoning with the twins, there was always something or some reason why nothing Tommy said would work. "Well, do you two have any suggestions?" Tommy asked, his head on the table. "We could go for a walk," Wilbur said, Techno opened his mouth to speak, but Wilbur finished his sentence with, "Without Techno." Techno looked up from his phone to glare at Wilbur. "I'm not gonna let you take Tommy outside alone," Techno said, angry again. Wilbur lowered his eyebrows and widened his eyes. "You can't stop me from doing anything Techno. He's our little brother, I can take him outside if I want." Wilbur said, upset. Tommy didn't know why they were fighting over this. Two years ago it wouldn't have even been a question, Wilbur used to take him on walks all the time. He remembers those days. Wilbur's face had more color in it, and his acne wasn't so bad either. He still had brown curly hair, but it was brushed and washed nearly every day. "Just walk with us, Techno. It could be fun," Tommy pleaded, not wanting them to fight anymore. Techno thought for a moment and said, "Fine. Only because you're right, there's nothing to do in this gods forsaken house." Techno responded, setting his phone down and glaring at Tommy now.
