Years had rolled by in the blink of an eye and little Byul was no more a little baby who loved his pacifier but a 10-year-old school student. Baekhyun had been fortunate enough to get a job as a professor at a university right near Byul's school.
The father-son duo always went home together but today Baekhyun was a little sick and decided to take a day off. "Byullie!" he heard his name being called by a familiar voice. His lips curled into a small smile seeing the orange-headed detective.
Sehun opened the door for him and helped him with the seatbelt before climbing into the driver's seat. Something felt off with the little boy. It was not his first time picking him up from school and Byul was never the one to be silent.
He a mini version of Baekhyun when it came to his social aspects. He was just so full of life, like a breath of fresh air, almost hyperactive. But he took after his late father in the looks, almost a carbon copy. There were times Junmyeon had cried seeing Byul since it always reminded him of little Chanyeol who followed him like a little innocent puppy waddling with his chubby legs before their life took a turn for the worst.
"How was school, bud?" Byul hummed, "It was fun. Ms. Kim gave me a star too." Sehun smiled, "A star for a star?" The little boy giggled, the foggy aura around him clearing up a little. "Anything else happened at school today?" Byul shook his head and turned his head to look out the window.
Sehun sighed, something was definitely off. "I have to drop by the station for a little bit, it won't take long. You okay with that?" Byul nodded. If it were a normal Byul, he would have jumped up. He was an extremely curious child, always wanting a reason and how everything worked.
The one time he had visited the station, thanks to Yixing who had gone there to pick up Junmyeon, he had been awestruck. The way there was so much behind a single person, the way they could have a hundred faces, and the way a tiny, minuscule evidence like a strand of hair could lead people in some direction, all such intrigued the boy.
Whenever he visited, he would go questioning the other detectives how they catch the bad guys or how they get the fingerprints. Sehun simply called him too clever for his age. After all, he was Chanyeol's son- the son of the cleverest asshole he had ever met in his life.
He followed his uncle Sehun with a little jump in his steps and his mood seemed to be much better. When he opened the door, Byul looked around to see so many boxes neatly labeled and stacked around the room on the shelves.
"Try not to touch anything, buddy. I'll be back in a minute." He patted his head as the boy gave a firm 'Yes' As he walked through the place, he tried to figure out the order they had been arranged in. Some of the boxes were too high for him to read the label, so with the other boxes he could see he determined they were stacked according to their dates.
But something caught his attention. At the corner of the room, were a few boxes stacked. They looked old and dusty with cobwebs and spiders running in and out of them. Curiosity struck the boy when he saw the same surname as his on one of the boxes, the one at the bottom, to be exact.
The dust had blurred the name and Byul knelt before looking around to see if Uncle Sehun was anywhere nearby. Assuring himself, he would not get caught, the boy wiped the label with the cuff of his uniform.
'Park Chanyeol- 2020' it read. A gasp escaped his lips. This is not the same man his Papa talks about and cries over so much, is he? Byul gulped. His Dada was a great man who always protected his Papa from all the dangers and the bad men and kept him safe and sound then was unfortunately killed by the cops, a wronged death. The little boy had always imagined his other father to be a cop or someone in that line of duty but boy, had he been wrong.
