Snake Eyes had just returned to the Helicarrier after the Living Laser fiasco when Fury asked for him to meet in the training room.

Standing in the training room, Fury paced in front of Snake as he explained the situation, "SHIELD's recently acquired intel about a possible Cobra base. Your mission is to infiltrate the base and gather as much data from their computers as possible," Fury said as Snake tapped his wrist.

Fury nodded, "I know you're not the best with technology. That's why I'm assigning you a partner," Fury said, looking at the door behind Snake, who turned to the side and looked at the door as it opened, revealing a female agent.

"Snake Eyes, meet Shana M. O'Hara, Codename: Scarlett," Fury introduced as Scarlett walked up to Snake Eyes and smiled up at him as he stood a few inches above her.

"It's nice to finally put a face to the name. I've heard a lot about you," she said, sticking her hand out as he shook it, giving her a nod. Scarlett looked confused about why Snake didn't speak as she looked behind at Fury, who understood the look.

"Snake Eyes doesn't speak. He's mute," Fury told her. Scarlett looked surprised before looking back at Snake, who nodded in confirmation as Scarlett stepped around him to Fury.

"Director Fury, how am I supposed to work with someone who can't communicate with me?" she asked before realizing her rudeness and turned to Snake with an apologetic look. "Sorry, Snake Eyes. No offense," she said as Snake shook his head to show he wasn't offended.

"Agent Scarlett, you've been trained in hand-to-hand combat by Black Widow, ranked top in SHIELD Academy class in marksmanship and counterintelligence, and have an IQ of 156. It should be easy for you to learn to communicate with him. He's not hard to understand," Fury stated sternly as Scarlett straightened up like a soldier.

"Yes, sir," she saluted as Fury turned to Snake.

"Snake, your mission is to get her in and out of the Cobra base alive and unharmed. This is her first big field mission—no unnecessary risks. I put you two together because of your skill sets, so learn to work together and learn fast. A hypersonic transport will be ready in 30 minutes—gear up. You're going to Utah," Fury told them as they left the room and walked down the hallway side-by-side.

The two remained silent the whole trip to the armory, but Scarlett kept stealing glances at Snake Eyes.

Once in the armory, Scarlett went to grab her high-tech-custom-made crossbow, her sidearm, knife, and a backpack filled with other equipment she'll need. Turning around, she found Snake Eyes sharpening his sword.

"That's all you're taking?" she asked questioningly.

Snake just nodded before spinning his blade and resheathing it.

Scarlett sighed before her crossbow collapsed, and she placed it on her back as the two of them rolled out and went up to the flight deck, finding their transport waiting for them. Boarding the transport, the two sat together as the ship took off.
