Johnathan: Daddy, I'm scared

~Y/n's POV (Age 7)~

Daddy has been acting weird ever since he's come back with Mr. Tech, my Uncle Jervis, and Uncle Jerome. He doesn't play with me anymore. When I have nightmares or anxiety attacks, I'm afraid to go to him because what if he doesn't love me anymore?

Firefly and Ice dude have been helping me though! Ice dude likes to tell me stories about his wife Nora, she seems like she was an amazing person. Firefly likes to distract me when I start feeling anxious, it really works!

Surprisingly, Mr. Cobblepot is very caring. I like asking him about his mother and how he use to deal with things in school. I get bullied at school and I don't know who to talk to about it.

Flashback

Y/n was running to Oswald's manor, tears in her eyes, falling down at fast rate. Luckily, Oswald was out or else Y/n would have been at the manor all by herself.

"Y/n, what's wrong?" Oswald asks, stopping Y/n with his cane from running pass him. He grabbed her arm, grabbing her attention through physical touch, something he picked up from his mother. "Nothing! Just don't tell Daddy you saw me crying!" Y/n said, still trying to push pass him.

"Y/n, I'm not letting go until you tell me what's wrong." She finally gave in. "You have to promise not to tell Daddy though, okay? Or else I won't tell you." Y/n tried to threaten. Oswald nods and says 'promise.'

"People keep calling me names and hurting me. They call me a monster and make up stories and the teachers do nothing. Some kids beat me up, I had to change clothes to cover them up, and when I told the principal he said that I was just as delusional as the inmates in Arkham." Y/n sobs. Oswald's heart ached at the girl's story.

"It's okay, it's ok. I understand what you're going through. When I was in school, I was always made fun of for how I walked. Calling me a penguin and a bunch of other names. I use to get beat up and ignored. But my mother was always my number one supporter. If you ever wanna talk about it, I'm always here okay?"

~No one's POV~

It's a stormy night, Y/n's least favourite weather. The sound of thunder has always scared her since she was a baby. The young child couldn't sleep. Johnathan wasn't home, well that she knew of, so she is all alone in a huge bedroom without her father to comfort her. 

Y/n was afraid to remove herself from her queen sized bed, scared that the monster underneath would shallow her whole. Luckily, Oswald gave her a walkie talkie to use if she ever wanted or needed him. 

Y/n carefully and hesitantly reaches for the nightstand's top drawer. Once she opens it and grabs the device, she instantly pages Oswald. 

"U-unc-uncle O-o-ozzy?" Y/n quietly cried, tears streaming down her face as another wave of thunder boomed throughout the house. "Y/n? What is it sweetheart?" Oswald says hurriedly,  not liking the sound of the tearful, scared child on the other side. "I-I-I'm ss-sc-scar-scared...AH! H-hel-help m-m-me p-ple-please..." The child begs and screams as another wave hit. "I'm coming, stay where you are." 

Oswald frantically looks around for Johnathan, finally having enough of his attics, but also hoping he wasn't the one causing her pain upstairs. He luckily didn't have to search long as Jerome and Johnathan were chilling in the lounge. 

"Johnathan! Enough with the tough guy, Scarecrow bullshit! Your daughter is scared upstairs and has no father to comfort her, so she comes to me! Your daughter needs you and all you care about is your fear gas! If you truly want to help people with their fears, then go upstairs and be a father!!!" Oswald says, losing it out on Johnathan. Oswald has been the father figure for Y/n since they moved into his mansion. 

Jerome and Johnathan were both stunned by Oswald's boldness. Better yet, Jerome had nothing to say what so ever, or so Johnathan thought. "Johnny he's right. You've been treating your daughter like she doesn't exist or like she's a test subject of yours. You tell us all how horrible it was being your father's test subject, but look what you're doing to Y/n. You've practically abandoned her emotionally and mentally. I've seen Oswald take your place as a father figure, and that's not fair for either of you. Go upstairs and be a father; not the Scarecrow, not a scientist, but a true father. Be the father you wished you had." Jerome's words of wisdom shocked everybody, but they knew he was right and where he was coming from. Jerome experienced abandonment and abuse as a child, and he doesn't wish that for another child.

Johnathan realizes that they're right and runs upstairs, but was stopped by what Oswald had to say next. "Get changed first! She told me once that the Scarecrow isn't the father she knows, but a monster who took him away from her." Johnathan nods and runs to get changed. Oswald pages Y/n and tells her that he and a surprise guest will be there shortly, which confused the young child. 

Oswald wasn't the first to arrive to Y/n's room. When Oswald arrived Bridget, Victor, and Jervis were already there to comfort her. Bridget had her on her lap, Victor telling her everything was alright, and Jervis playing with her hair. When Y/n hears the door open, she looks and sees Jerome and Oswald.

Jerome, almost instantly, speed walks towards the curled up child on Bridget's lap. He crouches down in front of Bridget beside the bed and looks Y/n in the eyes. "Hey it's okay, it's okay. We're here, we're here okay? You're safe, you're inside. Here give her to me." Jerome says before Bridget gives her over to Jerome. 

Jerome sits with Y/n on his lap but this time they face the window. "Now gorgeous, every time thunder sounds, every 5 seconds is a mile away. Now, we are going to count how far away it is ok?" Jerome says softly. Y/n nods and looks out the window. 

A wave of thunder claps and the group starts counting softly. "1..2..3..4..5..6..7..8..9..10..11..12..13..14..15..16..17..18..19..20.." They count before the thunder claps, unknowingly reveal Johnathan's silhouette. "See that means the storm is 4 miles away and that's really really really far." Jerome says to Y/n. Oswald smiles, but notices a figure beside him, Johnathan. "You know, that should be you right now?" Oswald whispers. Johnathan sighs before signaling Bridget, Victor, and Jervis to leave as they also saw Johnathan. Oswald chose to stay behind just in case. 

"You know, honey, my mother use to do the same thing with me? Can you tell me how far away the storm is?" Johnathan says, sitting beside Jerome. "F-fo-four m-mi-miles." Y/n stutters. Jerome hands her over to Johnathan, telling Y/n that everything will be fine. As he and Oswald leave the room and wait outside the door with the others. 

~Johnathan's POV~

'Shit! You've really fucked up this time!'

I sit looking at my daughter, feeling her shaking in my arms, looking terrified more of me than the storm. 

"Daddy, I'm scared..." Y/n says, tears welling in her eyes, ready to fall. "I know sweetheart, I know..." I coo, rocking my daughter a little. Then I remember something. "I used to be terrified of storms when I was your age. To be honest I still am." I confess, I look down and see her beady eyes looking at me in shock.  "Really?" She asks and all I can do is nod, tears forming in my eyes. 

"I'm so sorry! I shouldn't of shut you out pumpkin...I was just trying to protect you. I didn't mean to hurt you. I love you, pumpkin okay? I love you so much... Remember you're Daddy's little pumpkin alright?" I cry, finally letting everything out. I feel tiny little arms wrap around my neck and hug her tight. Both of us crying at this point.

"I love you too Daddy...I'll be your little pumpkin forever. Just like you're going to be the Daddy pumpkin right?" I nod, chuckling a bit at her antics.
