───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ─────it had been an hour or so since cora had arrived at jeongguk's place, ready and eager to watch the other film he had suggested so avidly earlier on in the week. granted, she did arrive sooner than jeongguk had anticipated, but she figured a few hours to simply hang out wouldn't hurt as they always found ways to beguile time.
and one of those ways were gossiping about anything and everything, much like they were doing right now. the current subject - quite fitting regarding the day - was past birthdays. the duo recalled memories from their childhood birthday celebrations and parties, either their own or others'.
"my 17th birthday was probably my best birthday." cora spoke with a small smile as she thought back, "dad, nova, and i went to this amusement park. i forget what it's called, but we had so much fun. i wish i could relive that day, i was just so happy then."
jeongguk watched her speak with keen interest, the sound of her voice sounding like a melody to the smitten boy. he watched as the small smile grew bigger as she kept talking, making the hundreds of butterflies in his stomach multiply into thousands.
"as oppose to now?" he inquired as he realised her last sentence, "are you not happy now?"
"no, of course i am. most of the time i would say i'm pretty good." cora nodded as she settled into the large sofa, "some days are worse than others, some days i don't even feel like getting out of bed, but doesn't everyone experience that?" she questioned back, silently urging him to agree.
"i suppose. i just..." jeongguk began before pausing, somewhat hesitant, "is there maybe something or someone making your days worse?" he suggested, a mild cautiousness laced in his voice.
cora looked at him suspiciously, dubious as to why all of a sudden he'd become so interested in investigating her personal burdens.
she puffed out a long breath before speaking, "someone... yeah, you could say that."
"who?" jeongguk pressed, sounding more interrogative than intended.
"someone who's... not in my life anymore." cora mumbled before cringing and quickly reverting the conversation, "they're kinda nobody to me now. like yeah, they piss me off and ruined one of my biggest dreams, but it doesn't matter because i don't associate with them anymore."
jeongguk agreed as he saw the obvious tension in cora's character when talking about whoever the person was, so he didn't push her into any further conversation about it. though in the back of his mind, he had an inkling as to who the person was.
