The two of them woke up late in the morning, close to ten. They were both exhausted from the night before, and since it was Sunday, neither of them bothered to get out of bed for an extra half hour. They just lay in their respective beds, Iwaizumi’s back turned to Oikawa as he lay in silence.
Finally Oikawa broke the silence. “Will you make me breakfast today Iwa chan? I’m hungry.”
Iwaizumi turned to him, an unexpectedly annoyed look on his face. “No, do it yourself. Unless I haven’t done enough for you, is that it?”
A hurt expression came over Oikawa’s face for a split second, becoming quickly masked with his usual grin. “Yeah yeah Iwa, calm down it was just a question.”
Iwaizumi’s stomach twinged. It had been a while since that happened, but he didn’t try to take back what he said. Who cares? He was just staying with Oikawa for a week, and then he could go back home and continue his normal life, go on a few more dates with Himari-
His thoughts were interrupted by frantic movement as Oikawa fell, attempting to get out of bed, having momentarily forgotten about his injuries.
“Stupid..” Iwaizumi grumbled under his breath, but crawled out of his futon once he realised that Oikawa was holding his head in pain.
“What did you do? Did you hit it?” Iwaizumi sighed, his voice lacking any sympathy.
“No I- my head just shook and now it really hurts.” Oikawa mumbled, managing to look up, only to see Iwaizumi’s bored uncaring expression looking back at him. “Y’know what, nevermind, I’m fine. You go- go do.. Something, I don't know” Oikawa said, a cold edge in his voice.
Iwaizumi nodded and simply left the room,
Iwaizumi had woken up on the wrong side of the bed. Everything was annoying him, except for the thought of Himari. He didn’t know why, but the girl he met seemed just so easy to be around. Unproblematic, caring, agreeable, not at all annoying like the clumsy boy he was stuck living with for the time being.
The thing is, Iwaizumi knew he was being mean, and it was unjustified, but he just couldn’t deal with Oikawa today.
He sat on the sofa and turned on godzilla, then whipped out his phone and texted Himari.
Himari san
9:23- Hello, this is Iwaizumi from yesterday. Is this Himari?
9:27- Yes! Nice to hear from you! How are you doing?
9:27- My roommate is driving me out of my mind.
9:31- Oh? Haha what did he do?
What did Oikawa do? Um.. He asked for breakfast. Is that a good reason to be mad at him..? No, he had to talk it up a bit.
9:33- Every single morning he makes me make him breakfast, it was just the last straw today.
9:39- Oh nooo lol! That sucks
9:40- Haha yeah, luckily I’m going to be in my own apartment after a week.
9:50- oh that’s great!
So dry… Iwaizumi didn’t know how to respond, so he said he had to go and deal with something Oikawa related.
Oikawa was up by now, making toast and looking actually awful. His eyebrows were creased, he had eyebags, and he kept swaying whenever he moved.
Iwaizumi didn’t bother him with questions, he’s probably fine.
Oikawa sat down on the sofa with his now buttered toast in his hand. He leaned sleepily on Iwaizumi’s shoulder without any words and ate quietly.
“You’ll get crumbs on me dumbass.” Iwaizumi grumbled, no real intent behind his words.
Oikawa closed his eyes while he ate his toast, slowly chewing it, seemingly deep in thought.
“What are you thinking about?” Iwaizumi asked finally.
“Oh nothing, I’m just focusing on staying awake. Why do you ask?” Oikawa opened his eyes slightly and yawned.
“The thing is..” Iwaizumi mumbled, looking a little embarrassed; “I don't know what to wear tonight-”
“-For your date.” Oikawa finished for him. “Well, I don't know, what’s your guys' plan?”
“Dinner.” Iwaizumi looked away, a nervous look on his face.
Oikawa had half a mind to get back at Iwaizumi with his own ‘Haven’t I helped you enough’, but the other part of him decided to just nod and begin his discussion.
Iwaizumi was pushed out the door by ever supportive Oikawa. He was certain that in his entire life he had never been so nervous, he wanted to make a good impression on Himari.
His hands were shaking on the drive there, and once he found the reserved table inside, he desperately tried to calm his hair, when the door opened and Himari walked in.
She looked beautiful. her curves accentuated by the not-too-dressy green dress she had on, and her shoulder length hair was held back by a green gem pin. Her shoes were simple white heels, giving her a little extra height, so she was just shorter than Iwaizumi.
She flashed him a bright smile as she walked in, sitting across from him and taking his hand across the table.
“I’m so glad I get to see you again Hajime!” She smiled cheerfully as he was frozen all but the growing red on his cheeks.
She really is beautiful.. He thought, before finally using his words. “I- n-nice to see you too again too.” He stuttered out, silently cursing his speech falter. Himari simply laughed lightheartedly and squeezed his hand. He got butterflies.
“Hi-himari san…” Iwaizumi started before recomposing himself, trying to speak confidently. “What would you looked from menu? Sorry, What would you like from the menu?” He congratulated himself inwardly before realizing that the menu hadn't even been given to them yet.
Iwaizumi walked Himari home late that evening. The date had gone perfectly, excusing the beginning nervousness, and Iwaizumi found now that he could talk much more easily.
“Oh, won’t you stay the night Hajime?” Himari asked sweetly.
“I wish.” Iwaizumi said truthfully, “but I really do have to get home to my roommate. He looked down at her wistfully as she draped herself over his shoulders.
“Oh but Hajime, your roommate is almost your age, is he not? Surely he’s capable of taking care of himself for one night alone?” Himari asked innocently.
Iwaizumi sighed and let himself become dragged inside, accepting what was to come, and altogether not feeling too bad about it.
Oikawa sat on the sofa with bags under his eyes, willing it to beep, ring, any sign that Iwaizumi was still coming back, really. It had been hours, it was almost one in the morning now. Oikawa’s eyes strained to stay open as he stared sightlessly into their chat.
His phone turned off after another five minutes when he forgot to touch the screen, but Oikawa didn’t notice. He hadn’t eaten properly since lunch besides a few sweets, and his stomach wouldn’t stop complaining about it.
He eventually drifted off into a disturbed sleep, tossing and turning in his bed, subconsciously waiting for his Iwa chan to return and tell him that the date was probably horrible…
