Luna and Regulus were sitting out in the yard of Hogwarts on their last break for the day.
"So how did you meet my brother?" Regulus asked.
"I actually met him on the train last year. Remus and I was looking for an empty compartment but couldn't find one. Remus saw only your brother and James in a compartment and asked if we could sit there. You brother flirted with me as soon as I stepped into the compartment." Luna said smiling as she remembered her first day of meeting her best friends.
"Of course, he flirted with you before even telling you his name." Regulus said. Luna laughed.
"Technically James told me his name." Luna laughed; regulus laughed with her.
" So, on a different note, how are you settling in here at Hogwarts?" Luna asked. Regulus looked down sadly.
"No one in Slytherin likes me." Regulus said.
"Well, you don't need them then. You have your Gryffindor friends and I'm sure you can make friends from other houses as well." Luna said to the younger boy.
"I wish I was like Sirius and didn't care about pleasing our parents." Regulus said.
"Well, I don't know exactly what your home life is like but from what Sirius told me it seems like you need to try and stay on their good side or run." Luna said sadly to the abused boy.
" I don't have anywhere to run to like Sirius does." Regulus said.
"What do you mean? You can always come stay with me you just have to be careful." Luna said.
"You would let me stay with you?" Regulus asked.
"Of course Reggie, anytime you need a place to escape come to me ok." Luna said.
"Thank you, Luna." Regulus said hugging the girl he had a crush on. Luna smiled and hugged him back.
"Associating with Gryffindors and hugging blood traitor filth. How low the blacks have fallen." A male voice said behind the pair hugging. Luna and Regulus let go of each other and turned to where the voice came from. Luna rolled her eyes in annoyance once she seen Malfoy with his two goonies Crabbe and Goyle.
" Leave him alone Malfoy." Luna said drawing her wand prepared to protect her and Regulus from the older Slytherin boys.
"Need a girl to protect you Black?" Malfoy sneered toward Regulus. Regulus drew his wand pointing it at Malfoy.
"I don't need anyone to protect me." Regulus said shotting a curse at Crabbe knocking him out making it even. The older boys both shot spells at Regulus. Luna tackled Regulus out of the way of the spells and shot stupefy at them. The jinx hit Goyle in the chest and sent his flying leaving only Malfoy against the younger two students.
"This is becoming a tradition Malfoy, only this year it will be you in the infirmary if you don't walk away now." Luna said pointing her wand at him along with Regulus. Malfoy smirked and shot a spell toward regulus, Luna jumped in the way taking the hit but also shotting one at Malfoy sending him flying toward Goyle. Regulus ran to Lunas side to see if she was ok.
"Luna are you ok. Why did you do that?" Regulus cried beside her on the ground.
" I'm fine Reg only couple scratches. I didn't know what kind of spell he was casting. He sent me to the infirmary for three days last year." Luna said.
"Don't ever jump in front of me like that again." Regulus said hugging the girl glad that she was ok.
" I make no promises I can't keep Reg." Luna said hugging Regulus closer to her as a way to comfort him.
"What happened here?" Lily came running to the two of them, seeing the older Slytherins on the ground as well.
"Just a tradition with Malfoy. You know how it goes with him." Luna laughed looking at the red head she called her best friend. Lily sighed and went to help her friend up and away from the scene of the fight to keep them out of trouble. Regulus got on the other side of Luna to help Lily get her back in the school.
"Are you ok Reg?" Luna asked the boy as he helped her walk.
"Yes, you took the hit instead of me Luna." Regulus reminded the girl.
"Yeah, but I tackled you. You didn't get hurt from me, did you?" The girl asked upset at the idea of hurting one of her friends.
"I'm fine Luna I didn't get hurt." Regulus reassure her. The three wobbled down the corridor toward the stairs that led to the Gryffindor common room when they ran into all the boys coming from their classes.
"What happened to you?" Remus asked running to check on his sister when he seen her being assisted in walking.
" Nothing Remmy just a fight with Malfoy and a couple scratches." Luna said hugging her brother, so he knew she was ok.
"These fights with Malfoy need to stop. You end up hurt every time. I swear I'll kill him this time." Remus said upset the older boy hurt his sister again and he wasn't there to help her this time.
" I didn't get hurt because of him Remmy. I twisted my ankle tackling Reg and got scratched a bit. You should see the three Slytherins we took down." Luna laughed. Regulus was scared Remus would blame him for his sister getting hurt so he spoke up.
"I'm sorry Luna got hurt. It's all my fault." Regulus said sadly not looking in the older boys' eyes.
"It's not your fault kid. Luna will protect her family and you have become a part of that family. She would die for you just don't let it come to that." Remus said messing the smaller boy's hair up. Regulus looked up in surprise that Remus wasn't upset with him at all.
"You're not going to yell, or scream, or punish me for her getting hurt and me not doing anything about it?" Regulus asked shock that he didn't even seem a bit upset with him that his sister was hurt. All the Gryffindors, besides Sirius, looked sadly at the scared and confused younger boy.
"No Regulus none of us will ever abuse you. You are a part of our weird family now. Our family protects each other." Luna said hugging the younger boy close to her. The boy blushed from being pushed up against her chest. Sirius saw his brother starting to blush from being pushed up against a girl's chest, he took pity on his 11-year-old brother and hugged him to give him space so he could breathe and calm down. Regulus felt his brother silently laughing as they hugged and realized his brother knew exactly what he was going thru and helped him.
