Invitation (Reversal of Fortune Part 2)

*Hello everyone! I know it's a bit off the Christmas deadline I set for myself, but it's here now! Since I missed Christmas, it's now a New Year's themed chapter. There will be a part 3 focusing on the party itself, which I'm hoping to release for Chinese New Years (January 22nd!) Though I'll be honest, Fire Emblem Engage releases on Friday, and I'm kind of a massive Fire Emblem nerd, so I would expect the chapter to be later than that.*

*Rei is invited to her company's New Year's party by one of her ex girlfriends. While Rei is against it, Claire is eager to go.*

*Rei POV*

Finally, my shift is over, it's time to clock out. At least I've got New Years Day off tomorrow, so I can spend the day with Claire! I know it's been a decent chunk of time, but jeez, it's still hard to believe that happened. Like, who would've thought I was lucky enough to have THE Claire Francois Isekai herself into my life!

Is it bad that I wasn't that bothered by her taking over my girlfriend? I mean, Ai was fun to be around and everything, but at that point in our relationship we were only just going through the motions. I can't see a world where that relationship lasted too much longer. Wow, I just realized that this makes me sound like I really didn't care about Ai. But I truly did... as a friend. I only agreed to date her because I didn't have anything else to do, but I know she truly loved me. She was a delightful person, just not my type. I was unable to give her the love she deserves, so for her sake, I hope she ended up somewhere where she can finally find the happiness she deserves.

Well, anyways, enough about the past, I've got to think about the future! I've already got a gift for Claire, it's this cute little otter plushy I found. I know how much she loves otters, after all. I've gotta make up for Christmas, where I wasn't able to get her a gift because the delivery service lost my package! She wasn't really that mad, but I still feel guilty!

After I clock out, I begin leaving. But before I'm out, I'm startled by someone grabbing my shoulder.

"Rei, wait!" I hear a familiar voice call out from behind me.

"Huh? Oh... it's you," I sigh. The woman behind me is none other than my ex girlfriend, Kosaki.

"Well that's a little cold, don't you think?" Kosaki asks, irritating me.

"Do you need something, or are you just here to annoy me?" I ask.

"Oh come on Rei-Rei, don't be like that-"

"Don't call me that," I cut her off.

"Look, I get that you're still mad at me, but just listen for a second. We're holding our annual New Year's party, and I was told to give you the invite," she says.

"I'm not interested," I quickly say.

"Come on, at least consider it," she pleads.

"Why do you care whether I go or not?"

"Look, just... consider it, alright?" She asks, holding out the card.

"I'll think about it, but don't get your hopes up," I say as I take the invite, just hoping she'll leave me alone.

"That's all I ask. And while I've got you, I'm sorry-"

"Stop, I don't want your apologies. You made the decision to cheat, so you have to live with it," I state.

"... see you later, Oohashi," she angrily states, walking away, not before glaring at me as she leaves.

How is she the one who's mad right now, she bothered me! She can't just cheat on me and expect me to just walk right back into her life! Well, it doesn't matter now, the past is in the past. Right now, I just need to focus on my future... and that's Claire! Still can't believe I get to say that!
