Layla
"Layla..." I heard my sister softly whisper. I tried to ignore her and pretend I was asleep but I was intrigued, what did she want? Is she here to apologize finally?
"I know you're awake." I felt a dip in my bed and I had no choice but to sit up. "What do you want?" I questioned, leaning over and turning on the lamp.
"Umm," she looked down at her black coffin nails and started to fidget with them.
I placed a hand on her shoulder, "Are you okay?"
A drop of tears fell down to the back of her hand, I gently lifted up her face, so I could look at her. "What happened? Did something happen at school?" I asked concerned.
"I hated you so much Layla." She let out.
"Wh-"
"Before you say anything just let me finish."
I nodded my head.
"I hated you so much that I swore I would never speak to you again. I blamed everything on you, if mom wasn't trying to rush home to see you in the hospital, than she would still be here." She grabbed a hold of my hands, "And I know that is insane, the therapist dad forced us to go to last year even said the same thing. But I had to blame it on someone. But its not fair to put it on you, because you were going through things to. And I thought what does she have to be going through to wanna do this to herself, you're popular, pretty, your boyfriend is literally every girls dream. But then Alejandro told me something today..."
My face fell, is he the reason why I'm getting bombarded with all this shit today? I fell back into my bed.
"Please don't be mad at him, he clearly didn't mean to say anything. He was just trying to help and understand why I was such a bitch towards you-"
"It was none of his business!" I angrily got up, how could he tell them my personal business. I can't trust him anymore. I walked out of the room and down the stairs.
"He clearly likes you because he did not like how I was treating you. It was just an accident Layla." She followed behind me, "Layla please stop!" She cried.
"I'm sorry! For treating you like the scum of the earth."
"And now you're going to treat me better because your suicidal sister got raped?"
"No! I-I-I didn't know how to speak to you!! That night I saw you in the tub, I took you out and had blood all over me. I was fucking scared Layla and then mom died, I-I didn't know how to react I didn't know what to do so I shut down and became this rude monster."
"I'm sorry." She continued down the stairs, "I've been the worse little sister ever. If there was a reward I would win it. I'm just sorry, okay." She finally made it to the bottom of the stairs and look up at me with regret in her eyes.
I finally saw my little sister again.
"I'm sorry too... I didn't mean to traumatize you." I pulled her into a hug. "I'm sorry. It won't happen again. I swear!" I cried.
"You swear?" She sniffed.
"Yes, I swear! Never again!" I hugged her tighter, "I'm so sorry."
I don't know how long we stood her hugging but I honestly did not want to let go. Maybe it was a good thing we don't have access to our phones. "Do you maybe want to order some pizza and watch a movie?" She asked.
"Yeah, I would love too."
"But how do we order?" She chuckled, wiping her tears.
"I guess we have to use the home phone... How do you even use that."
"I don't know." She laughed, walking over to it. "Oh! It has like buttons."
While she ordered food I was scrolling through Netflix, I wanted to watch a 2000s Rom-com but I was not in the mood for romance. It just reminded me of Alejandro.
I let out a deep sigh. "Do you just want to wait for the food?" I asked as she plopped down next to me.
"Yeah."
"You know your absence today was KNOWN everyone kept coming up to me today asking about you." She laid her head down on my lap, "Its exhausting being your little sister." She chuckled.
"You might not have to worry about that anymore."
"Why? Does it have something to do with Jasmine?"
"What? D-Did she speak to you today?" I questioned.
"Yeah, she was rather rude too. She said something a long the line of, tell your sister to stop hiding, you're not going to be able to sit with them at lunch and that you guys are not friend anymore. What the hell happened?"
"I slapped her in front of a lot of people."
Her eyes went wide, "Is that why you had detention?"
"Yeah." I sighed.
"She can't kick you out the group, you're literally dating Jason."
"Well, Jason is at football camp this week so she technically can do it for now." I started to play in her braids, "These are long over do Cas." I chuckled, examning her new growth .
"I know. I've just been so lazy." She sat up and gasped, "I just had a great idea. Why don't you help me!" she cheesed.
"Fine. Go get the scissors."
Just like clock work the bell ringed, "Finally I'm starving." I grabbed the money from my purse and opened the door.
"What are you doing here?"
"I came to see you." Alejandro says, holding up a box of chocolates.
"I fucked up." His eyes were swimming with regret.
"Yeah you did." I took the chocolate out of his hand.
"I trusted you."
"I-I know, it slipped out I didn't mean to say it."
"Your sist-"
I crossed my arms, "My sister and I are none of your business, I don't need you to stick up for me. I can handle my own problems."
"Right, then you end up in the tub soaking in your own blood. Got it!" His words cut deep.
"Was it the same night..." he reached out for my hand but I pulled away. "I don't want to talk about it..." I whisper. "And I don't want to talk to you." I frowned.
"You can be mad at me all you want but I only did it because I care about you. I just want you to know you can come to me and talk."
"I..." I trailed off and my gaze fell to the ground, "I just need some space. From everyone and everything. From you."
"Fine." He took a step back, "I guess I'll see you around Layla."
