(Family Line)ADEJARE
(Flashback: 8 years ago)
Dinnertime at our house was always rowdy.
With five teenagers, two kids and one toddler, all cramped into a tiny three bedroom apartment, something as simple as a meal could turn chaotic quickly.
Which was why tonight was weird.
Mummy woke us all up early today to clean the house from top to bottom.
The only persons exempted from cleaning duty were Sister Deola because she had work, Desola because she would scatter more things than arrange them and Demi because he was too small to do anything.
When I asked Mummy why we were suddenly cleaning today, she told me it was because we were expecting a special visitor; my dad's boss. A very rich man who would join us for dinner in the evening.
In the afternoon she basically locked Sister Doyin, Brother Dolapo and I in the kitchen to help with the cooking.
She cooked more food than she usually even did for Christmas, but we weren't allowed to touch anything until the visitor arrived.
I was curious to see this wealthy person that made us cook and clean in preparation for his arrival.
My curiosity was satisfied when at 6:00 p.m. a black Lexus pulled up outside our house.
"Guyyy!" Brother Dimeji said, nudging me with his arm.
"Omorr, the car big pass our full house," Brother Dipo chuckled.
"No nau," Brother Dolapo said, looking intently through the window.
Sister Doyin just hissed and rolled her eyes.
I knew she wanted to be outside just like Deola, who had told Mummy she was going to a friend's place to study.
We all knew it was a lie, but Mummy and Daddy weren't aware of her party girl lifestyle and it wasn't like we were going to snitch on her.
Our attention was seized again when the door of the driver's side of the car opened and a large man, probably in his forties, wearing a Senator style outfit -complete with hat and walking stick- got out.
