"Otedola, come and solve this equation on the board" Mr Ayoola, the maths teacher's voice rang in my ear. Fear gripped me like a vice as I stared at the meaningless equation of which I had no answer to.
"I can't solve it sir" I replied. He frowned, glaring at me from those heavy glasses he had on.
"I'm not asking you if you can, I'm asking you to come out and solve this equation!" He half yelled. Gulping, I stood up and walked to the board, trust me, it felt like going on a long journey. I took the marker and faced the board without any clue of what to do.
"We are waiting" He snapped. I swallowed a retort and scowled at the board. The horrid man had an habit of disgracing me in every maths class knowing fully well I wasn't an avid lover of maths and I sucked at it.
"You see? these are the the students that waste their future in being unserious when every other person is serious and learning. A big shame." He said, eyeing me. I felt embarrassed at his scathing look and itched to leave.
"Well? Who can help her solve this equation?" He asked the class. No one volunteered. I knew they won't. If you tried it and failed the question, Mr Ayoola will punish you so hard that you'll regret ever volunteering to solve the question.
"Oh so no one can solve the equation? Okay then" he said and looked around with a serious expression.
"DaSilva! Come out here now!"
There were murmurings and mumblings. Of course a DaSilva's name cannot be called without generating commotion. He was still seated, looking at Mr Ayoola like he hadn't spoken."DaSilva I said come out!"
Zayne glared at the teacher, like really glared. He stood up from his chair majestically, walking to the front of the class like a king, his cold eyes on the teacher. When he stood face to face with Mr Ayoola, his glare intensified and I thought I saw Mr Ayoola gulp.
"My name is Zayne Mr Ayoola. I do not remember giving you the privilege to call my surname anyhow" Zayne said calmly. Mr Ayoola was sweating and uncomfortable and trust me, it was interesting to watch. I mean hey, seeing a feared teacher shaking in front of a student was kinda funny.
"Please solve the equation" Mr Ayoola said quietly. With hands in his pockets, Zayne sighed and took the marker. He solved the equation effortlessly, dropped the marker and went back to his seat without even waiting for Mr Ayoola to approve or disprove it.
