Problems.

It was still night time when we finally began moving. Some cars had been abandoned due to the panic. Not many people can survive in a world like this, I was lucky to have made it this far. I looked at the surroundings as Shane drove. The burning city was no longer in view, which was good. Further away we are from busy places like the city, the better chance we have of living. At least that's what Shane says.

Carol and Ed's car drove ahead of us so that we could follow. Luckily It was only a 20 minute drive. its some where safe, for now. I looked to the corner of my eye to see Kay and Carl asleep together. I don't understand her, I honestly don't, she'll swing an axe at an unarmed man and not feel bad about it but will comfort a kid who just spoke to her. I fear one day she's going to get herself in trouble.

On the way we passed a gas station. It looked as if someone had already raided it. 24 hours into the apocalypse and some cunt has already began raiding. Honestly, how uncivilized can one be.

I noticed the red lights on Ed's car flash red indicating he was pulling over to investigate.

"Are we gonna follow them?" I questioned Shane.

"Well if we wanna get there were gonna have to" he stated

I nodded. He pulled the car over next to the gas station, it was dark so we were going to have to be careful. I shook Kay, indicating for her to wake up.

"Huh" she said in a grumbled voice

"Shane says we're checking this place" i replied, pointing to the gas station outside the car

We were low on food, low is an understatement. We had no food, so this was probably for the best, so we gave it a shot. Without waiting, Shane turned and nodded at Lori, indicating to remain in the car. She rolled her eyes but took a second thought when she remembered her 8 year old was asleep in the back of the car. Me and kay exited the car, to be greeted by Ed. shane soon followed quietly, closing the door behind him to not draw attention to people or those... monsters.

"Why the fuck are we doing this" Kay whined

"Cause we need food dumb ass" Shane replied slowly getting annoyed.

"Okay... but why are we doing this now?" Kay moaned while stretching.

"Cause i don't wanna starve tonight" Shane once again replied, this time more aggressive

Kay knew she was getting on his nerves and was finding it funny.

"But... like... why?" she asked once more.

"Kay , you are more than welcome to remain in the car if you're not happy!" he exclaimed, shouting in her face.

She wiped her face mimicking as if she were wiping spit off of it.

"Say it not spray it" she smirked

Suddenly, i watched Shane grab Kay pushing her towards the car,

"Ooo, i have never been arrested by a cop before" she smirked before putting her hand behind her, indicating to 'arrest' her. She knew Shane would not be happy.

Shane opened the car door trying to force Kay in by shoving her head in. Kay, out of reflex, smacked Shane across the face leaving me and Ed shocked. She smirked at him as he looked down and wiped his lip. He laughed to himself before staring her directly in the eye. She knew she went too far this time.

"Now listen here young lady, you are free to leave at any time. All you gotta do is walk away" he gestured to the dark road. he slammed the door out of frustration causing Carl to stir.

Kay gulped and remained silent, still making direct eye contact.

"Shane lets just think about this" I backed her up, i don't know why. She was being a total dick.

Kay glared at me, practically telling me to shut up. i looked down and let her continue.

"I just think Carl should know the truth about his father" she confronted Shane, taking the attention off of her.

Shane froze on the spot. she knew something that i didn't.

"i think Lori should know what happend to her husband at the hospital" she continued

"er guys are we going to investigate this gas station or not?" i asked

"James shut the fuck up for a second" she shouted

"now listen, i don't know what you think you know. but as far as Lori and Carl know hes dead" he whispered aggressively

"he seemed pretty alive before you shut that heart monitor off"

Shane went pale as my jaw dropped.

"now liste-" she cut him off

"no you listen here, that poor kid thinks that his father died in the hospital. just for me to find out that hes not dead. thats  what you were hiding in that room were you!"

Out of nowhere, we heard a faint growl coming from behind us. It was one of them. One of those monsters. Ed and Shane face turned pale, they barely had any experience with monsters. I didn't either. Kay was the only one i know killed a monster before.

"Move aside" Kay pushed Shane to the side, walking towards the monster in the middle of the road.

She searched the area for something sharp or remotely sturdy. She quickly saw a thick lead pipe directly in front of the monster. She began running towards keeping her eyes on the walker and the pipe, knowing if she were to as much trip or stumble she may get bit. She kicked it in the knee, causing the walker to drop to the ground. She immediately grabbed the pipe and raised it. She looked down at it, reaching for her feet, letting it crawl to her.

"Kay are you gonna kill it?" I asked without hesitation.

She stood there with her arm in the air looking down at the monster, heavy breathing. She was like a statue, no sign of movement or speaking. I began walking towards her when I noticed what the problem was. The monster was a child...
