it's already been over two days since we were at the hospital and already 24 hours since Shane left me and Kay the side of the road that night. We've been walking ever since i had that dream. their faces weren't clear nor their voices. i wonder who they were. anyways dreams aren't going to get me anywhere. reality is, and this reality is taking me on roller coaster. no i mean a literal roller coaster.
we stumbled across a small pop up carnival. a few tents, little to no rides, one small porta-potty. y'know, your regular cheap shitty carnival where the town spends the rest of its funding's to keep the people happy, so original. i remember when my mom would take me and my older brother to these things back when we were younger, back when the world made sense. she'd give us 5 dollars each to spend on anything we wanted. i used to spend it on the hook-a-duck where as my delinquent brother would go and steal other kids ice creams. He was always the type of person to keep his money and waste others. turned out 5 years later he left, i take it he saved enough money, only leaving a note.
Kay noticed as began smiling, thinking he may still be out here. as silly thought i know, but still possible. he was a dick but hes family.
"what you smiling about" she questioned me.
"just remembering when my mom took me to these things" i said with a soft chuckle.
"must be nice" she sighed
"what do you mean?" i returned, noticing the sadness in her voice
"just that my mam passed away and then my da-" she cut herself off
"your dad?" i responded
"i don't want to talk about that cunt right now." she looked down, slowly looking back up to meet my eyes with a playful grin "last one to the carousel is a rotten walker"
wow, that's a saying now. 'rotten walker'. never in a million year would i thought to have ever heard that.
i sprinted after her cause i didn't want to become a rotten walker. i heard her up ahead laughing loudly, to loudly.
"Kay!" i loudly whispered. she didn't hear me
"Kay shush!" i tried once again, nothing. she was lost in her own world.
eventually she made it to the carousel, jumping up and down in victory, breathless. i managed to finally finish, about 20 seconds after her.
"looks like your a rotten walker James, ha!" she spoke with a childish tone
"looks like your a rotten cheater" i scoffed in response
"your just jealous" she rolled her eyes
the lass could have given me a heads up, a warning at least. i watched as she began looking for something. she gasped with joy as she found the generator. she gave the pull cord a fast and vigorous pull, as chuffed into motion. i watched her face light up with joy as she raced to one of the wooden horses that bobbed up and down. music roared as it began to spin.
"Kay i don't think this is a good idea!" i quickly retaliated.
"oh shush man, we haven't seen any walkers in 24 hours" she soon responded
i gave a quick glance around before noticing that it was quiet, to quiet.
"maybe everyone in this area evacuated?" she backed herself up.
that point was unproven once we heard the sound of growls. i didn't know where. from the left? from ahead? it was everywhere.
"Kay!" i exclaimed, panicking, looking for some form of weapon. i knew i should kept that pipe.
"whats got you in a twist" as she looked around. her face dropped as she saw a huge crows of walkers coming from all sides.
"why did you have to turn that stupid thing on for fuck sake" i shouted angrily at her.
she did nothing but slowly dismount the horse and attempted to avoid eye contact. i knew she felt guilty. so she should. were probably going to die. i saw an opening in one of the make shift buildings and quickly grabbed Kay by the arm, charging for the opening. we turned the corner to be met with... myself? i turned another to be met another warped version of myself.
"fuck" i exclaimed looking around to be surrounded by mirrors.
"Kay RUN!" i pulled as i began walking into walls, stubbing and tripping with every turn and bump. occasionally walking into walls.
I turned another corner to be met with a growl and a face full of walker. i stumbled towards it as Kay bumped into me putting me at arms length. dickhead. i pushed her backwards as the walker lunged towards me. it just missed falling and smashing into the wall. glass feel over the walker as i grabbed a shard, tightly grabbing it as i felt it cut deeply into my skin. bloody dripped from my hand as the walker stood back up. i raised to the height of the walkers forehead and pushed it deep into its skull. i winced in pain as i felt the glass cut deeper as it sliced my hand as the glass plunged deep into its head. it dropped as i gave it another push. blood dripped down my arms, the sight knocked me sick. i felt vomit rising up my throat, and projecting from my mouth.
Kay gave a disgusted look as all she could do was watch from behind me. the walker, the blood, the pain. it was becoming to much. i felt myself begin to heavy breath as i felt the walls come closing in. Kay noticed i was becoming claustrophobic as she pushed ahead to find the exit. i saw the strong white glow of daylight. luckily no walkers. i heard as walkers echoed from behind us. i came to my own senses as we escaped. i held my hands close to my chest as the pain from the the breeze hitting them intensified the pain. we ran till we found the road we came from and continued running till we were far enough from the carnival.
"Why did you not listen to me" i struck out.
"I-i im sorry" she muttered
"Im sorry what was that? are you saying sorry because im still recovering from being attacked by a walker in a fucking mirror maze, you really do put the fun in funeral Kay!" i exclaimed.
"Im fucking sorry, i don't know what you want from me" she shouted back
"Well personally, a doctor would make this better, dunno about you but im currently bleeding out" looking back down at my hands, showing them to her.
She looked down, kicking her feet; scuffing them on the tarmac road.
I looked at her until she finally returned.
"Whats that in the distance?" she said pointing into the distance.
Something moved towards us from the horizon. what was it? it looked like a... a... a RV? people! oh my god people! i saw Kay's face slowly lighten up as she saw it was some form of civilization. we both ran into the middle of the road waving our arms in the arm trying to get the attention of the person driving. it slowed down as it finally came into full view.
A matter of 5 meters was a matter of life and death. we don't know who these people are. they may be dangerous. me and Kay looked at each other and gulped hard as the RV door swung open.
