To know why Pip was surprised we must go back a bit, to the others, who were just caught.Rowan, Piper and Leon were cornered at gunpoint. A man came in to put them in hand cuffs but through the window the light lessened more and with a crash a caped figure flew in and swept the police off their feet or against a wall, then kicked asleep the one who hadn't gotten knocked out.
"You don't have to say thank you." The figure said. It was a womans voice. She had many drapes for a costume with big holes for sleeves and a skirt. A stripe around her eyes was coloured black, and most curious of all she wore a cloth on her head which came down to a point on her nose."...they were just doing their jobs." Piper sighed.
"If you wanna get political about it." She gave her hand to the girl, who didn't take it. "Suit yourself — her majesty."
"Do I know you?" Rowan asked.
"Do you?" She smiled.
"Do you?" Piper echoed.
"I do..." Rowan thought. "I just can't remember."
"You're in Depingo, it'll come back to you. Now if you're all done we should get going."
"Wait." Leon spoke up. "You know..? You..?"
"I remember." Rowan thought. "You're The Kookaburra?"The three kids followed The Kookaburra through the building.
It felt less empty now, as if more and more eyes were on them, but no one could see where from.
"The Kookaburra?" Piper asked.
"I think." Rowan said, a little confused. She led into the main room with the computer.
"I don't like this." Piper whispered.
"I don't know what I'm doing here." Leon added."You decided to come." A voice called out. It was the speaker. Leon knew it but not a word it had said, and Rowan and Piper knew its name.
"Erwin." Rowan worriedly said.
Then out from the maze came Erwin. A short man with angry eyebrows.
"Your brother came too." He said.
He held out his hand and the wall of the computer he was in front pulled out a screen and showed Sayle from a distance.
"What have you done to him!?" Rowan ran but by only saying 'fall' Erwin got the boy to his knees. "Is that a scarecrow?"
The three kids were too scared now to notice The Kookaburra had disappeared. Piper hadn't even noticed Leon hiding behind a wall when she fell to her knees.
"He's in our world now, why don't you join him?"
"Uhhh, no, no..." Rowan struggled to think how he wanted.Leon saw The Kookaburra out of sight as well.
"Get him out of there." She said.
Leon was too shaken to think but had to when The Kookaburra whooshed away.
On the screen was Sayle walking with a tall scarecrow.
What happened next Leon would never say if it was intentional or not, but by playing with the dials and buttons Leon had been the one to bring up the door in front of Sayle and Pip.On the screen everyone watched Sayle leave that dull world.
"What!" Erwin finally showed some anger.
This is when dark grey arms stretched from the walls like tentacles to grab the three kids.
"Hiding were you? Don't lose sight of yourself now." He said to Leon, who was dragged to Rowan and Piper.Sayle came through the door now to see this all.
"RUN!" The three shouted, and Sayle did as more arms came after him.
"Please, stop shouting." He lulled, and they did. "Why won't you relax. Come to rest. Lose sight of yourself." He sat down in the arm chair and the children were puppeted upside down.
"I've been here before." Piper giggled.
"You've come home." Erwin said softly.
"Homo." Rowan snickered and the three kids giggled amongst themselves.Sayle burst out the doors then stopped, there he stayed for a minute in the fresh air.
He was free, and had no experience fighting or whatever he thought his brother did, hadn't they come to save him? he thought.
Then from above he spotted a figure everyone but him had met. The Kookaburra, looked down from the roof and for a moment the two watched each other.
Sayle felt her judgment, only later he would see it was his own he gave to her. Like a reflection of himself, the figure saw him.
