Morana's POV
Loneliness is an empty feeling, stuck in the pit of your stomach. It can be a motivation for the worst of crimes. It has been for me. I don't remember much, but I do know that I'm scared to be alone.
The bedroom is a small, empty, depressing room, one in which I sit alone in again. My feet tap on the broken floorboards as I sit on the mattress, feeling the springs bounce under my skin. The silence is comforting, yet suffocating, but is quickly interrupted when the door opens.
"We need to talk." Sam pokes his head into the room.
"Okay." I nod my head, standing from the bed.
I follow behind him and walk into the living room, where a distressed-looking Steve stands next to Winter. Bucky. I keep forgetting to call him that. Bucky looks up at me, smiling reassuringly. I reciprocate, but my smile doesn't reach my eyes. Noticing this, he ushers me over to sit next to him on the couch, which I do.
Sam stands next to Steve, both of them looking down at us nervously. Sam clears his throat, looking up at Steve, nudging him to start speaking. He nods his head, preparing himself.
"Before we moved out of England and into this apartment, Sam and I needed to go back to the others. We thought that we could convince them to drop the murder charges on you two, and let you back into the country legally. But, they wouldn't listen." Steve explains.
Mine and Bucky's heads drop, both of us looking down at our laps, hopelessly. Before our minds can go running for miles, Steve continues.
"The government wanted us and the others to sign these papers. They called them Accords. These Accords made sure that we have no control over our own decisions. I refused to sign them."
"So, did I," Sam speaks up.
"Why?" I ask.
"There were stupid rules that we would have to follow if we did. People with abilities, like you Beverly, would be imprisoned if you used them. Even if you were defending yourself. I can't live in a world where I and the people that I care about to get punished for the things that are out of their control." Steve studies mine and Bucky's faces.
Beverly. The name is so foreign to me. It sounds strange coming out of anyone's mouth. Especially when that person tells you they care about you, even after you almost killed them multiple times.
"We need to leave Romania. I know we've been jumping around so many different places to stay safe, but we need to. The government know where we are and are prepared to take us all in."
Steve walks over to Bucky and me, grabs Bucky's shoulder and makes him look up at him. When he does, Bucky smiles up at him, trying to convince Steve and himself that it's real. But we can all tell it's staged.
