CHAPTER 8
STAY

WHEN ROYAL woke up the next day in her bed, the first thing that came to mind was what happened the previous night. No matter how hard she tried, the witch could not stop her mind from wandering back to the almost kiss she had with Bianca.

Every attempt at wiping away her smile when she thought about the siren, was fruitless.

Esmeralda who has obviously noticed her roommate's change in mood, kept questioning Royal and begging her to just tell her what happened the night when Bianca walked the girl to her dormitory. However, Royal would just shrug each time and avoid and change the topic.

Later that afternoon, when the students had their study break or rather, free time, Royal and Esmeralda went their separate ways. The vampire went to the library to read while Royal went to the small fountain in the middle of the academy to think without any distractions.

As usual, the area around the fountain was quiet. It was only Royal and her thoughts.

The witch sat down on the ledge of the fountain and looked at the calm clear water. Royal thought about Bianca. About their almost kiss. About whether she should chase after the siren. Or whether she should keep her feelings to herself and not make a move.

Don't do it. A voice in her mind told her. It was the same one that warned her about the danger she was in when she met Tyler and Ingrid.

Do what? Royal replied.

Don't go after Bianca's heart.

Royal frowned. And why would I listen to you?

Because I made you who you are. Without me, you are nothing.

Royal grimaced. You don't get to talk about making me who I am. I was the one who build myself up from scratch. You did nothing.

Oh please- Who taught that girl who bullied you back in your old school, a lesson? I did. Who wants the best for you? I do. Who saved you from death's door? I did. Who chose you as their avatar? I did. The voice hissed.

You don't want the best for me, we both know that. I'm just a mere pawn to you in this game. That's all I am. A tool. Royal frowned.

Oh stop being such a baby! The voice screeched, making Royal's head hurt. Royal groaned in pain as she placed her head in between her hands.

You are my avatar, whether you like it or not. And you will always be my avatar. Now do as I say and keep clear of Bianca Barclay.

          I won't listen to you.

Do you want your beloved siren to end up like poor Miller did?

Royal's eyes widened in fear as she recalled everything that happened that night in Scotland.

Royal could feel the voice smirking. That's what I thought, the voice said.

And just like that, the voice disappeared just as quickly as it came. Royal frowned as she looked at the fountain. As much as she hated the voice, Royal knew that its words were true.
