SWEAT

As a child, sweat

All you want to do is wipe it away

Did you know that that is a sign of your body trying to cool down

Working under extreme heat was something

I would work with only a t-shirt

Mom would say keep your long sleeve on

I would ignore her

It was hot

I loved the gentle breeze

Over time I realized why she said that

I should've listened

Now my pigments are shaded

Now I look at them and it brings back the past

How ignorant and childish I was

My color doesn't change the person I am

It doesn't define who I am

Or who I will be

They show the races that run through my blood

Of the past and the present

I am a balance

Swing a balance

I did

And it's on my skin
