CHAPTER 4

stuck in the maze.

IT WAS DARK OUT AS OIZYS SAT AGAINST A TREE, DEEP IN THOUGHT, STARING AT NOTHING IN PARTICULAR. The girl was suddenly broken out of her daze by a presence sitting down next to her. Minho placed a blanket gently over the girls lap, already noticing the goosebumps scattered around her skin. The two sat in silence, Minho thinking of what to say, knowing they were both stuck in a harsh mindset as well as being both mentally and physically drained. 

"Alby mentioned to me about what you asked him this morning." Minho finally spoke, breaking the peaceful silence, knowing that they both wouldn't have wanted to talk about the boy they lost. "You know why I can't let you out there." He said with a soft tone, yet a sternness being found behind it. 

Oizys kept her eyes on the ground, not wanting to look up at the boy as she fiddled with the grass under her. "Yeah. But you also know that you need me out there." She said confidently. Minho opened his mouth speak but was was cut off. "Minho, I can't just wander around the Glade all day. I need to do something useful."

Oizys could feel his eyes on her as he stared at her with sympathy. "Zee, I can't let you go out there again, not after everything that happened and especially not after today. It's dangerous as hell out there, Zee, and you know that." He said, worrying about the girls safety.

"I don't care how dangerous it is! The only useful things I've ever done for the Glade have been out there. In here I'm as good as dirt, I can't just sit around whilst you do everything yourself." She said urgently before calming down slightly. "Minho, I need to get out there." She finished, not caring about how desperate she sounded. 

The two then fell into a comfortable silence. They sat side by side, Minho pulling the girl in closer to help combat the cold, looking out into the darkness and keeping their thoughts quiet.

When morning came, the Maze doors opened once again. Right outside, Oizys and Newt were sending Alby and Minho off, wishing them luck for their run in the Maze; though Newt did most the talking while Oizys stood off to the side, still upset about the unfinished and unspoken conversation between her, Minho and Alby. Minho gave her another look of sympathy before he and Alby ran off, into the Maze.

Later that day, Oizys stood with Newt and Zart as they cut down a log, whilst Thomas and Chuck sat on the side, Thomas questioning more about the Maze. "All right, but why would Alby go in the Maze? I mean, he's not a- he's not a Runner."
