"Steven I swear to god if you look at that phone one more time I'm putting it in a screen basket" Laurel said looking towards the two laughing boys sitting infront of me
"It's just we want to see your beautiful faces" Susannah spoke softly making me smile
"Can dinner be a screen free zone? You know, like the olden days"
"Steven?" Jere said looking at the teen that was still focused on his phone, despite the mothers requests.
"Are you kidding me?" Steven groan as Jeremiah suscessfully tossed the boys phone into the basket "boom" "nailed it"
I slightly cringed at the blondes words, as Hudson laughed.
"Okay, okay we get it, you've been working out" Steven grumpily said
"Oh your just jealous because Jere has a better body then you" Belly smirked
Oh? That was kinda odd, is belly into Jeremiah? I always thought she liked conrad. Not that I care, the comment just caught me off guard.
"Uh no actually it's all about the lean look now, other wise you can't wear tailored suits"
Everyone at the table began to laugh. "Tailored suits?" Connie spoke up, drawing everyone's attention to him.
"When do you leave for training camp?" Steven asked, the vibe in the room instantly became awkward. I looked beside me to Conrad, he was tense, and had a slight furrow to his brow. I grabbed him hand from under the table and gave it a squeeze, to show my support. It's something we had done since we where little, like our little code that we where there if one of us was upset.
"Actually he quit" Jeremiah spoke up
"Wait really u quit?" Steven said, slightly tripping over his words
"Mm"
"Are you kidding man? I'd kill to play college ball"
"It's his decision" I looked up at Steven shaking my head, it was obvious Conrad didn't want to talk about it, and Steven did not have to make any remarks even if his intentions where innocent.
"And he can always change his mind" Susannah added in
"I'm not going to change my mind." "I was just going to sit on the bench all season anyways"
"Well if your not doing football anymore what are you plans for this summer?" My mom smiled from her seat between Laurel and Belly
"Oh dude you could work at the club" Jeremiah smiled "Yeah with me and jere"
"You guys are working this summer?" My younger brother slightly frowned, I know he loves spending time with Jere and Steven and spent every summer following them around, so it was obvious he was a little bit disappointed.
"Yeah sorry man I'm life guarding and Stevens gonna work at the snack shop" the blonde gave Steven a fist bump "but you can stop by anytime you want" "you too Canon" he playfully winked making me roll my eyes
"Oh wait, girls I almost forgot" Susannah said standing up, grabbing a piece of paper and sitting back down
"I have a surprise for you" she handed me and Belly each a envelope
"So this is why you just had to stop by the country club" my mother laughed
"What is this?" I smiled questioningly
"I rangled you two both an invitation to be a debutant"
"Is that the thing where the girls wear white dresses and curtsy?" Belly scrunched up her face
"No it's when a girl comes of age and it presented to the world" "I know it sounds silly but I swear it's fun, girls come all over New England to cousins just to be appart of it" "you'll make so many new friends"
"Oh Susannah it sounds like a dream, I'd love to" I said cheerfully making Susannah's smiled widen
"Wonderful! Now what about you belly?"
Laurel rolled her eyes " I can't believe you're still holding onto this archaic dream"
"No it used to be about finding a husband, but now it's about networking." "They teach you leadership skills like how to market yourself and it benefits Charity it's like a umh well it's like a bat mitzvah"
"It is not like a bat mitzvah" my mom giggled "There is nothing religious about a debutante ball"
"The whole Deb scene is bullshit it's for sheep" Conrad cut it
"Yea" Jeremiah said making me roll my eyes at him
"Yeah ok Conrad didn't you go to the debutante ball with a girl just last summer??" I huffed, Conrad looked at me with a annoyed look plastered on his face
" it's just a coming out like a formal recognition that a girl has reached maturity"
Steven began to laugh, spitting out some of his soup back into the bowl. "I'm sorry I'm sorry. Mature?"
"Yes"
"Belly?" "A couple months ago you had a cat funeral"
"Shut up Steven I saw you crying in your room"
"Wait mochi died?" I looked at the girl, this had been my first time hearing the news and I knew how much Belly loved that cat "Aw I'm sorry bels"
"Belly don't you want to get all dressed up? I know Canon does"
"It's just not Belly's kind of thing she's our Ferrell little ally cat and Canons more of a Show dog" Laurel answered for the girl
"Show dog?" I raised a brow, causing Jeremiah to laugh
"Belly please, I don't want to do it alone. Think of how much fun we'd have" I pleaded
"I'll think about it"
"She'll think about it!" Susannah smiled giving me a wink
"Anyways anything new?" Laurel changed the topic
My mom found this the perfect opportunity to brag about my new accomplishment and spoke up "Well Canon became Captain of her schools softball team"
"That's great Canon" The blond sitting in-front of me smiled
