Chapter 22 📖- Grandma's House

No one's POV:
The next day, the both already done with school. Chaeryeong and Taehyun on their way to grandmas house. She rings the door, but the doorbell is broken. "I'm just gonna know her." Chaeryeong knocked the gate. "Grandma it's me! Chaeryeong!"

"Chaeryeong!?" An old lady is on her way. "Chaeryeong, it's been awhile. You grown so much." Her grandma was glad to see her. "Nice to meet you grandma. Btw, here are the croissants my mom made, your favorite." She gave the pastry in a well packaged. "Thank you dear! Who is this young man? Taehyun grandma, nice to meet you."

She smiled at him think he is the perfect man for her granddaughter. "Is he your sweetie? Umm no grandma, we're just friends." Chaeryeong blushed a little. "Oh sorry, he seems to be a kind and handsome." Taehyun felt a little embarrassed. "My dear welcome, come inside."

They all went inside the house. Old furniture is still here and old photos in frames. "Grandma, is it ok if we can study in the dining room?" Chaeryeong found the dining area, enough space to work on. "Yes dear, I will treat you guys some biscuits and juice." Her grandma said. "Thanks grandma."

"Sorry, my grandma can be curious sometimes way to far if I'm with a boy." She said. "It's ok, I'm used to it. My grandma is also like this. They even try to plan me and my ex friend a wedding." Chaeryeong got confused but find it funny! "Alright let's start." Chaeryeong bought her laptop and notebook while Taehyun got his text book and iPad.

"Here dear, here is jam biscuits and melon juice. Thank grandma." Chaeryeong was pretty excited to have a snack, but had to focus on the project. "Wow, I see your using those gadget keys and those touchy screen thingy." Seems grandma are not familiar with these stuff.

"Anyways, you two can work now, grandma is gonna rest for a bit. You may grandma." grandma left, with the two of them alone with a pet cat sleeping. "Alright, let's continue." They continued there work. Chaeryeong was making a long slide presentation and organize the information while Taehyun was researching and collecting important information.

They all felt tired, but pushed through to get done. 1 hour and 50 min later, they already finished. "Finally, we're done, we can rest now." Chaeryeong leaned and stretched for sitting to long. "I need to stand up and stretch too." Taehyun said and stand up with his knee hurting. "Dear, are you down with your assignment?" Grandma is back from her sleep.

"Yes, we can rest and stretch more." Chaeryeong said. "You guys are lucky, before these gadgets exist or so called the "internet", we have to read lots of books from the library if we were do research. It way harder when looking through all pages than typing those websites things." Chaeryeong images if she was in grandma's situation, she will quit her research for her homework.

"Now I can read my— *doorbell*." Then a doorbell rings. Grandma went outside and saw Mrs. Lee and Chaeyeon. "Hello dear, I never expected to see you here. Wow, Chaeyeon grown up, I never seen her for awhile, come here." Then Chaeryeong notice them but confused. "I thought you guys won't be here? Well, both our plans were canceled, so lucky we have time to visit." Chaeryeong understood.

"I will prepare a quick meal for you guys." Grandma is preparing stuff in the kitchen. Chaeryeong start to bring the book from her bag. "Taehyun, it's not actually a story, it's actually someone diary or journal." Taehyun's eyes become wider. "Wait really? Is it why it looked handwritten? Maybe, but it's about well...idk." Chaeryeong can't explain about the dairy.

"It's even that old?! It was written during 1600s!" Taehyun noticed the dates written. "Yeah, I think they just repaired it since it won't be in a go old condition after a long time." That makes sense. "It kinda looked familiar." Mrs. Lee said. "Really mom? Well idk, maybe I'm wrong." Both of them are confused. What did Mrs. Lee meant? "Everyone, dinner is ready!" They all went to the dining area.

"My dear Taehyun, have a seat." Taehyun didn't hesitate. He knew his mom won't mind being late unless if it's midnight. They about their food on their plates. "I really missed grandma's cooking, there so good."Chaeryeong said. "When I was young, I used be a chef when I was a young woman, so sometimes I teach your how to cook and bake." Grandma said.

"Well, I want work as a baker, but since during our time, we don't have enough money for culinary school and stuff." All of them understood. They all continued eating until most of them are done. Taehyun is finished with his food, he want to drink his water until his glass is not in the table. "Umm...where is glass of water?" He questioned and notice Chaeryeong drinking the same glass which is his.

"Chaer, isn't that mine?" Chaeryeong got confused. "Oh wait that's mine." She realized her glass on the table. "Wait, have you drank it? Ummm...yes..." he said. Chaeryeong's eyes widen with her cheeks pink. "Opps!" Chaeyeon said. Chaeryeong become shy since she doesn't share other people's drinks. "Sorry... it's ok, I'll just drink it in the other side." He drank the part without Chaeryeong's lip gloss stain.

Then grandma notice the book on the coffee table. "Since when did I own this? Oh no, I actually bought it from the library in school. The library? This was owned by our ancestor." Chaeryeong got confused by what grandma said. "Ancestor? Yes, this book supposed to be shipped to us, but it might be shipped in your school accidentally." Grandma said.

"One of your ancestor, Aera, moved to Switzerland at 1681 when she was only 18 years old with her arranged husband. She has been studying about science and invent things similar to magic and luck. This dairy, she has been talking about are the things she made and what she learned. They've been hiding and not get suspicious. In that time, lots of people gone through poverty, so this happens..." grandma paused.

"What happened?" Chaeryeong asked. "In 1688, the people mostly women had been executed who are said to be the dangers of the society even there not really." Grandma continued. "That's pretty bad. In this situation, Aera feels like the target even she didn't do anything wrong. They moved to there lab in a forest somewhere hidden that no guard would pass through. Her husband would mostly find the supply for them to survive and the lab.

"She also has a assistant working with her. She also with her husband, she very intelligent." She gave some of the details. "Wait, what happened to the jewel charm thing?" Chaeryeong asked. "Oh I know what your talking about. Base on the dairy, she promised to give it her future children when she dies. She gave it to her daughter while her assistant gave it to the other child I guess. It actually mentioned in the last page of the dairy." Chaeryeong checked the last chapter of the book.

Nov 1, 1692

"That's it, that's my last. The bracelet is with me at my hands. My dear assistant was also caught. I'm locked at cell in darkness with fear and sadness. I felt trembling and my body weak. I won't be traveling back to my country again. I hear people crying for help, but no way to escape. The time my life ends, I will pass this to my own children as a little specie. This is my goodbye"

"Wait, I confused, What does she mean a cell? How does she know she'll die soon? Chaeryeong, that means she gonna get executed because of false accused of being a danger to people and beliefs. Her assistant is also caught. Then she died at the next day. Both bracelets survived, but nowhere to found. The present day, they found the lab but not the bracelet. Before me and your grandma are together, we also have the bracelets, maybe you'll have that too."

Chaeryeong was amazed. Taehyun also listened, but find the story familiar what his grandma told him. "Anyways, we have to go now, thanks for the visit. No problem, come back soon." They all waved. Chaeryeong wonders if the bracelet is true.
