When I awoke the next morning, Steve was still next to me. His grip had weakened, but he was still holding me.
I turned to face him. His eyes fluttered slightly, fighting to wake up. I gently kissed his jawline. His hand moved up to the back of my neck.
"Good morning." I said.
"Not morning." He said, in a sleepy, hoarse voice.
"It's 10." I said. He groaned. I kissed his lips.
"Do you have to go home?" He asked.
I laughed, kissing him. "Yes." I responded. I started to release myself from his grasp, which made him tighten. "Steve, baby, let go." I said.
He groaned again. I sat up and opened the curtains. He covered his eyes.
"Come on." I said. He sat up and put his legs over the side of the bed.
"Come here." He said. I walked toward him. He grabbed my waist and pulled me down onto his lap. I smiled. He cleared his throat. "I love you."
"I love you too." I responded. "Now come on, let's go."
"I have to change." He said.
"Oh, yeah."
He changed into a pair of jeans and took his shirt off. "Like what you see?" He asked. I laughed.
"Maybe." I replied. He put a sweater on.
"Come on." He said. He grabbed my hand and we walked out of his room and down to the car. He opened the door for me and closed it when I got in.
He drove off. "I'm gonna be in so much shit." I said.
"Sorry." He said. "I shouldn't have fallen asleep."
"No, no. It's fine. You can still sneak in my window." I said. "Nothing too bad comes from this, honestly." I already had little to no freedom.
And I knew that wasn't Hopper's fault. It wasn't anyone's fault other than the people looking for me.
"Well good." He said. "I don't think I could go too many nights without seeing you."
I laughed and shook my head. He put his hand on my thigh as we continued to drive.
Once we there, we both got out of the car and walked up to the door. Steve kissed me before I walked in.
Hopper was sitting at the table, his arms folded. I looked around and saw Owens sitting next to him. "Uh.. hi." I said.
"Hi." Hopper responded. "Sit down. Steve can come in if he wants, but you aren't in that much trouble."
Steve walked in after me and closed the door. I sat in front of Hop, and Steve sat in the in between chair. He kept his hand on my knee.
"Kid, I have some news." He said. "We found your mother."
"Wait, really? I figured she was dead." I said.
"No, she's actually in great condition. It seems she managed to escape Brenner's zap." Owens said. "We've scheduled for you to go see her."
I smiled. I jumped up and gave both Hopper and Owens a hug. "So, when do I get to see her?" I asked.
"Next weekend." Hopper said. "You're grounded until then." His voice went stern, but he smiled when he saw me smiling. "Now get out of here." He told Steve.
"Yes sir." Steve said, he kissed me quickly, then walked out of the door.
"And no calling!" Hopper yelled after him. I smiled, then went into my room.
Later that night, naturally, Steve tapped on my window. I opened it and he crawled in. He greeted me with a soft kiss.
"Shh.." I said. "Hopper's sleeping on the recliner." I whispered. Steve smiled, and put his hand on my neck.
"I love you." He whispered. I giggled quietly. He kissed me.
We laid on my twin size bed. I put my head on his chest. Steve played with my hair.
"You know, sometimes I can't sleep without at least seeing you." He said. "It's even better when I get to hold you."
We laid there for awhile, before he finally left.
He came every night until I was ungrounded. Saturday morning, he knocked on the door.
I put my shoes on and walked out the door. He greeted me with a kiss.
We got in the car, and drove to the address Hopper gave us.
"So, are you excited?" Steve asked. I nodded. "That nod didn't look entirely genuine."
"I'm just nervous. That's all." I said.
"That's reasonable."
After two hours, we made it to my mother's house.
Steve opened the door for me. There were 3 children playing in the front yard. One looked to be 10, another 8 and another looked 3.
An older boy was sitting on the deck. He looked up when he heard the car door shut. "Hey, Mom!" He yelled. The door flung open.
There she was. Her face just the same as I remember. Barely aged. Steve held my hand. I squeezed it.
"Y/N..?" She asked. I nodded. We walked up to the deck. She met me half way and wrapped me in a hug.
Steve let go of my hand. I hugged her back. "I always knew you'd come home.." she said. "Always."
I felt tears sting my eyes. We parted and she looked back at Steve. "Who's this?" She asked.
"Oh, this is.. this is Steve. He's my boyfriend." I said. "Sorry, I figured Hopper would have told you.."
"He did mention a Steve. I must have forgotten.. I've just been so excited." She said. He reached his hand out to shake hers. She moved it aside and gave him a hug.
The boy walked down the stairs. "You probably don't remember me.." he said.
"I'm sorry.." I said.
"No, no. Don't be." He replied. "Don't be sorry. You were only five the last time I saw you."
"I'm still sorry.." I said.
"I'm Matt." He said. My face brightened.
"I do remember you.. faintly, but I do." I said. Steve walked up to me. "Oh, this is Steve."
"Matt." Matt said, shaking Steve's hand. The kids ran toward us.
"Mom, Virginia won't stop trying to steal my toy." The 10 year old said. She looked like Mom.
"We can worry about that later." Mom said. "This is your sister. Her name is Y/N." I smiled at the girl. The girl stared at me, then ran off.
"Please, come inside." Mom said. "Kids! Let's get inside."
All of the children ran in the house. Matt followed, then my mother. Steve and I looked at each other.
"Still nervous?" He asked. I nodded. He grabbed my hand and we walked in. The house was pretty.
We followed my mother into the living room. "I honestly just can't believe you're home.." she said.
My leg started to shake. Steve set his hand on my knee. "Uh, yeah." I said. "I'm sorry, I'm just slightly.. nervous."
"That make's sense." She said. "Y/N, I want you to know that I fought for you, but they threatened the entire family." She said. "I couldn't let them have both you and Matt."
"I understand." I said. "I don't blame you.."
"I can't imagine the horrible things that that man did to you." She said. I looked at the ground.
Steve squeezed my knee. Images of Papa flipped through my head. I remember being locked in a room. A cold room. It was so quiet, I felt like I was going insane.
"Y/N?" A voice called. I looked up. It was my mother.
"I'm sorry, what?" I asked.
"I said your father should be home soon. Are you.. okay?" She asked me. I smiled and nodded.
"I just need a second." I said. "Where's your bathroom?"
"Down the hallway, second to last door on the left." She said.
I stood up and walked to the bathroom. I stood in front of the sink and splashed water on my face. When I looked up, I saw him.
"They don't love you." He said. "They chose their son over you."
"That's not true." I whispered.
I looked behind me. Nothing. I dried my face off and walked back out. I sat next to Steve again, as a car pulled in.
"That must be Brian. He's been so excited to see you again." She said. I smiled.
He walked in. He looked rougher. He wasn't an office worker, I could tell just by seeing him.
"Brian, this is Y/N and Steve." She said. He looked at me, his eyes softening. I stood up and he hugged me.
"Hi." I said. He smiled.
"You're so beautiful.." he said. "You're so perfect." He touched my hair. His eyes watered up.
Steve stood up and shook his hand. "Hi, uh.. Mr..." he started.
"Creel. Brian Creel." He said, taking his hand. Steve smiled.
"Mr. Creel." Steve said. "I'm Steve Harrington."
"Pleasure to meet you." My father said. It felt weird, having actual parents. Hopper and Joyce were always there, but these people created me.
We sat back down. "Now, can we please discuss one thing?" My mother asked. I nodded. "So, do you really... have, you know.."
"Oh, superpowers?" I asked. She nodded.
I continued to lift a mug off of the ground and set it back down. "Yeah." I replied. Steve smiled. He wiped the little bit of blood off my nose.
"Wow." Matt said. "That's not freaky at all."
I smiled. "That's me. Freaky." I said.
