Warning: I am NOT a professional tailor. I just have a bit of interest in said topic and have watched some videos relating to it so please forgive if some stuff is not accurate, I tried my hardest ok?
Anyway here's my interpretation of the ninja's gis and how they are be worn and all that. (Yes it was absolutely necessary for me to write this like an article-)
Enjoy!
_____
If you are a young ninja in training and are want to learn about your gis and how to properly take care of them than look no more! For here is how gis are worn and taken care of ninjago.
● Construction
The first layer is going to obviously be your undergarments so hopefully you are already wearing them.
Next comes the under shirt and your pants along with your gloves and socks. Your socks will most likely be thick and padded so you will basically be able to use them as slip on shoes. (Though you can wear proper shoes over them)
Next comes on the actual gi. It is kind of like wearing a coat except you have to tie a belt at the waist in order to secure it and to prevent it from falling off.
After that you can put on your mask. This can either be a separate piece of cloth that you wrap around your face or it could already be attached to your gi and you just have to pull it over your face.
After that the gi is basically done though you can choose to add more to it. For example:
• Armor for more protection.
• Slots to store any of your weapons.
• Harnesses to carry necessities.
• Decoration such as pins, embroideries, brooches, etc, etc.How gis are worn | Image created by Cho
● Materials
Gis have evolved over time and different materials have been tested and used but no matter what materials your using, you must remember one thing:
The gi must be light and breathable
Of course, because you're a ninja and end up in all kinds of situations. It is important for gi makers to strike the balance between being light enough to wear in the heat and thick enough to wear in the cold.
Of course there are varients of gis that are made for a specific type of weather only but what if you end up getting captured by snakes and they take you to a volcano and because you weren't able to change into a suitable gi. You feel too hot and eventually die of dehydration???
Thats what we thought.
Modern gis are made of a fabric that is unique to Ninjago. It's texture resembles a soft scale like surfacethat have grooves in them. And is considered the perfect material to fight in as it hard to penetrate with sharp weapons.

● Advantages
• Because the sleeves and pants are nice and puffy this actually helps to trap hot air into them which is handy during cold missions. (Though this does not mean that you shouldn't wear actual warm clothing if given the opportunity)
• The gis are also to be worn a little loosly (Remember, just a little loosly) this helps to get some of your body heat out during hot missions.
• Your mask shall most likely be extra padded/have a bit of metal around the area of your forehead. This is to protect the skull and the brain from getting serious injuries.
• Because your socks will be thick and padded at the bottom. This will make it easier to put them on in urgencies and will help you in stealth missions.
• If you have elemental powers than your gloves shall either be open at the fingertips or have a very thin fabric over them. This is to help you in summoning your element.
● Maintenance
Gis are relatively easy to wash. Just throw them in the wash on low heat with some soap and water and let your washing machine do it's thing. However different stains need different treatment.
There are many ways on how you can treat them but the rule of thumb is to let you gi soak in warm soapy water and just give it a stir every now and then. The time length depends on how heavy the stains are. The heavier the stain, the longer the soaking time. This is so that the stains can move out of gis grooves.
If the stains are very stubborn than you may do some scrubbing with a soft sponge but PLEASE do not use any harsher materials or scrub the gi for an extended length of time! Too much vigorous scrubbing can actually cause the gi's ridges to breakdown which is a huge disadvantage in fights as it makes it easier for the gi to be torn apart.
If your gi is damaged than you can either seek help from a professional or hand repair the gi yourself. But that requires elbow grease and we know how lazy our readers are. 😉
● Quality
In order to know that you have a good quality gi and not a cheap piece of cloth. You must look for the following:
• The stitching must be atleast a millimetre thick. This ensures that the gi will last a long time and won't come loose easily. (This also to every other garment that you purchase)
• The belt must not be too stretchy.
• The texture of the Fabric must be fine to the point that you have to be very close to see it.
• The socks should atleast be two centimetres thick at the soles.
Hope you found out everything that you need to know about your gi and we wish you good luck on your future missions!
