So serene. This place, this life. It's serene. Or at least, it promises to be. The quiet chirp of birds had filled my room as I sat at the end of my bed. It's really a shame I won't get to fully experience this.

A year is such a short amount of time.

My knees were pressed against my chest, my arms wrapping round my shins to secure them. My attention was focused on nothing at all but the texture of the rug on my floor. It was soft, a white almost frayed rug. It was barely comfortable at all but it look good. One day I'd find the energy to change it.

A soft knock disrupts the silence and I look over to see Zack smiling softly at me.

"It's time to start getting ready, American." I nod in response to him and let go of my legs, placing my hands on the soft duvet. I push off of my bed and move over to him with a smile.

"Thank you, Zack. This is gonna be a great night, I know it." I give him a quick hug and shut my door over.

Now it's time to try and get out of this weird mood I've been in. The only way to do that is to just get moving. So, I head towards my closet and pull out the clothing I want to wear. My style since moving to Paris has improved by ten fold. Especially when one of your friends is a stylist.

I pulled on the floral dress, one that I would never have really had the courage to wear before. It was so pretty and fit me so well. Why has the nicer weather become the reason I'm better with the body.

The weather wasn't the real reason I had become more comfortable in my body. I had become more comfortable because of one person. That person was back in New York. Engaged to another woman, while I was left high and dry to just put up with it.

I'm done with that part of me... that immature needy girl who desperately wanted the approval and acceptance of her girlfriend. I am done with this desperation and self pity. I will make a good life in this year and I will be better when I go back to my home.

And then at that point it's up to Julia, to decide what she wants. Who knows? Maybe after all of this she decides Kira is the better option. Maybe after a year of waiting for me she'll finally get married to Kira.

She'll wait for me. I know it. She'll find me. Julia will take me home and everything will be just as it was, just peachy.

I stare at myself in the mirror, bringing a hand up to my cheek. I blend in the liquid blush with my finger trying to blink away my tears.

I've just done my eye makeup, there's no way I'm ruining it.

Once I finally finish putting lipstick on I stand up and smooth out the long blue floral dress and pull on ankle socks before pushing out my room to go help Zack set up.

The door opens and my best friend Audrey peers in slowly.

"Hey, thought I'd help," she smiles and tugs off her shoes, placing them neatly against the wall next to the door. "Although, yous seem to be pretty much done anyways..."

"It's fine Rey, thank you though," I smile back and move over to pull her into a hug. She squeezes me encouragingly and I pull back quickly. "Do you know what? Could you grab some prosecco and cider for me?"

She nods and pecks my cheek before she pulls on her shoes and jumps into her car, driving away.

We had offered our friends the option to stay the night, my family decided they'll just get a cab when they want to go home.

The door opened again and I held my breath as a familiar brunette walked through, she pushed her hair out of her face as she held the door open for Sofie.

I could sit here staring at her forever. The urge to march over and kiss her was almost impossible to ignore. But I push passed it. She finally looks at me and my stomach knotted, almost cramped up as her small smile made my stomach flip.

"I brought some wine," She lifted the bag and I stood there, my mouth open like a fish. Zack clears his throat and moves over to grab the bag, taking the contents and putting them in the fridge.

Sienna moves towards me but I don't move an inch, worried that if I breathed too hard I'd scare her off.

Her hand gently grazed against the back of mine and I'm ripped from my daze to stare at the contact before she moved away to sit on the couch with Sofie.

"Holland said he can make it down," Sofie said and I nodded at her. "His family have finally settled so we'll be seeing him more now."

"That's good," I say absentmindedly trying to ignore the tingling that had engulfed my hand. I shake it slightly trying to do something other than stand here gawking.

The door opened again and my brother, mother, father and Audrey all pushed in after each other. Almost everyone was here other than Holland. I'm glad he received my invitation.

I moved over to the console table where my phone was sitting charging and I connected the music to a speaker, beginning to play music I like. Some windows were open so music on the street clashed, but it wasn't enough to completely distract you. You had to focus on the music outside to notice it.

Not even a minute after the others had showed up, he knocked on the door. I opened it and noticed immediately the bags under his eyes.

"Need a drink?" I joke and he chuckles through a deep breath.

"Oh yeah, I need many."
