Wrong Time, Wrong Place

The past

It's lonely out here, but I don't mind it. It's good to be somewhere quiet, I have good feeling about it.

"The stars are pretty tonight, but I need sleep. I have a busy day tomorrow"

That was sarcasm, but I do feel sleepy. I stood up from the patch of grass I was sitting on and headed back inside, heading straight to bed.

"wait, why is it so bright...? It was dark for just a moment ago"

I got up and looked around. It was daytime, yet something feels off.

"This isn't... My house, it feels like it is, I remember it is, but this doesn't feel right"

I slowly navigated through the house, it felt like home. But surely, my house was different and my life isn't as bad as I am seemingly remembering.

"I'm near Maytown, but wait isn't Maytown just ruins? Unless... Am I im the past where it's history took place? Am I the Star Saviour? I didn't even listen to the history lessons in school... What am I going to do?"

I stood there, thinking deeply. I had the chance to change fate or fulfill it. Then I heard a commotion outside, many people speaking and someone shouting amongst them.

"The sky is falling! The sky is falling!"

Out of curiosity, I went out the house and approached the ongoing commotion. At Maytown's entrance lay a big gate, everyone gathered in front of it. Maytown never had a gate, did it?

"Hey, are you ok? Did you see what just happened last night?" A man looked over to me.

"I am fine, and I didn't know what happened. I was asleep"

"This may sound crazy, but... All the stars just fell out of the sky!"

"What?!"

"Yes, it's hard to believe. They were all knocked out, and the night sky has become a void!"

"There was an odd character who called himself Stratosfear, who sought out the power of the stars. He knocked them out of the sky and into his reach!"

"So the stars are scattered now?"

"Yes, and he's locked off a lot of areas so he can hunt for them himself such as our town. Maybe there's some way to open the gates?"

"Maybe I'll figure out something on how to open these gates"

I thought about it for a moment, though nothing seemed to come into mind. Someone nearby spoke to us.

"I'm not a rocket scientist or anything, but it seems we need a star to open these doors. I wonder where we can find one..."

"Oh! You're getting somewhere with that idea- I think there's stars in whistling woods, I'll go look for some and we'll see if it works out"

I say to them, how do I know this anyway?

"Alright, say, what is your name?"

"Nicholas"

"That name sounds familiar, are you friends with the mayor?"

"I used to be..." What am I saying? I've never even lived the life I'm remembering, but it seems I'll have to go on with the act.

"What happened?"

"It's... Something I'm not ready to talk about, but I'm planning to fix our friendship today"

"I understand, I hope everything goes well. Be careful in whistling woods there's plenty of nasty critters in there"

"Thank you, I'll be back in a moment"

They nodded and I turned around and headed to whistling woods, there were a tribe of wissles and I was given a task to find something in return of a star. The obstacles it took to gather each star was tricky and tiring to go through, I suppose the star saviour persevered through this and so will I. It took half an hour, but I've gathered the stars.

"I feel like it will be necessary to gather all the stars, so the skies won't be as empty as it is, Mason wouldn't want an empty sky"

Mason? He's the Maytown's mayor, though what happened to Maytown after Stratosfear's defeat? My thoughts distracted me for a while, until I realized I needed to run back to Maytown's entrance. The people were waiting for me.

"Hey it's you! Welcome back, it seems you got a few stars"

"I'm sorry it took a while, I decided to take every star the forest had. So Stratosfear doesn't take them"

"Hm, okay, let's open the gate with these!"

I slowly approached the gate, attempting to open it. It opens slowly, revealing a man in front of a fountain, I recognized him. It was Mason. His face was full of shock and relief.

"Hey... Are you the one who opened the gate?"

"Yes, it is me"

"Oh! You have some stars, where did you get that?"

"Whistling woods, some guy behind me said I could try opening the gate if I carried some stars with me. So I got some"

"Wait, what are you doing here? I thought you moved away..."

"I... Moved back here over a month ago just nearby, today I decided I want to visit Maytown again and talk to you"

"Oh, I see, it's good to have you back, Nick"

His gaze was full of warmth and joy, and for a moment I felt happy, even if everything feels surreal. It's nice to see an old friend.

"Since you're here now, do you have any time to spare?"

"Of course, I don't have anything better to do anyway"

"I need a favor, a big one"

"Sure, what is it?"

Mason seemed uncertain for a moment.

"You see, there are more gates, similar to the one you just opened, blocking other parts of town"

"So you want me to gather stars to open the gates...?"

"Precisely. You catch on pretty quickly! But these one seem a little harder to open, as they require more stars"

"Doesn't seem too bad, I'm up for it"

"Great, you can start looking for stars in Pharaoh falls"

"Alright, could you tell me where it is? My memory isn't as clear as it is"

"Of course it's on my right, you'll find the sign pointing to it"

"Thank you"

I faced the direction he pointed at, but was quickly grabbed on by the arm by Mason.

"Nick, before you proceed... I've missed you so much friend. I'm so happy you came back"

I smiled at Mason for a bit and spoke.

"I missed you too, Mason"

He gives me a smile and let's go of me, I nodded and continued walking to where I'll find stars next.
