Obito never knew he could wake up feeling this comfortable. At least not in this lifetime. Yet here he was, cuddled in against Kakashi who slept soundly in his arms. Kakashi was relaxed, with his head resting on his chest and limbs slumped heavily into the mattress. Obito couldn't help but brush his hand through the strands of silver hair, soft against his hand, and breathe in his mate's scent. Obito didn't want to get up, he was ridiculously comfy.
But he'd need to order food for Kakashi, who needed all the energy he could get. The next round of heat would creep up on the Omega soon and Obito's rut would come back in full force. They both needed one another to take care of it now, much to Obito's annoyance.
Admittedly, he hadn't been entirely sure what he was going to do with Kakashi now that he had him in the Hidden Mist. It was far too tempting to keep him here, but he shouldn't. No, that would be a distraction, one Obito couldn't afford.
Thankfully his mask had remained in place the entire time. Kakashi never tried to take it off, only adjusted it whenever he wanted to kiss him. Obito had adjusted it a lot last night too. He had wanted to kiss Kakashi senseless.
His Alpha purred. They had kissed Kakashi senseless. They had kissed Kakashi everywhere, and bit and nipped and licked-
Obito twitched.
Everywhere. Bit everywhere. Oh no they fucking didn't-
He quickly checked Kakashi's neck, earning a soft whine. He brushed Kakashi's hair back in apology for disturbing his sleeping mate, even as he grimaced. Obito had bitten Kakashi's scent gland. He had actually bonded to him.
He reached up for his own and winced.
Kakashi had bitten his too then.
Okay, yeah, none of this was according to plan.
Fuck.
When a couple bit each other's scent gland that was it. They were bonded for the rest of their lives (unless you did something harmful to yourself, which made Obito feel queasy just thinking about. He could never cut apart his scent gland.) Mates didn't always accept one another, so they could bond themselves to another despite that. Or if someone lost a mate.
Of course, Kakashi's Omega probably knew who its Alpha was, and was probably delighted right now, just as Obito's Alpha was. Obito however had no idea what to do about this. He couldn't do anything really, unless he killed Kakashi or caused himself harm, which would put him out of commission for at least a year. That was no good.
And Obito would rather tear his own spine out and beat himself to death with it than kill Kakashi. It didn't matter that he'd bring Kakashi back in the next life. He refused to cause his mate harm.
Mates didn't kill one another. Especially not as an Uchiha, when love and hate were such overbalancing scales. Killing Kakashi would drive him insane, just trying to would leave him ill. That had supposedly been the cause of Hashirama's death. Konoha teachers tell them he died in battle, but Madara had told Obito his true fate, his voice full of pained grief, no matter how much time had gone past.
Just the thought of having killed Madara, despite having two mates, left the Omega seriously ill. Mito Uzumaki (his other mate) tried to help Hashirama, but the pain was too much and he passed on early in his years.
Madara had said his heart had been ripped out when he felt Hashirama die, and that mates should never cause each other so much harm. Obito had been confused, said he and Kakashi got into fights all the time, but Madara scoffed and said their fights were pup spats. They were nothing serious.
The old bastard had been right of course.
He had realised that when he saw Rin impaled on Kakashi's Chidori. Kakashi's Omega scent flooded the air, full of so much despair, while Rin's Beta had been full of pain filled determination, blood and oddly enough sea salt. Obito had only been able to choke helplessly on their scents, before he was overcome by a murderous fury.
