Third Person's POV
"I'm here baldy, in case you wanna talk."
And that, right there, was Valerie deflecting.
"Are you serious?" Max hissed at her from behind.
"What am I supposed to say? I've never done this before-" Valerie rambled, letting out a sigh.
"You seem to have an affinity towards haunting me, you've done it twice now. So why don't you stop bullshitting around, and finish the job." Valerie paused, "I know you need four kills."
The light stopped flickering, and dimmed.
Valerie watched in confusion as Lucas' lamp lit up, he on the other hand knew just what to do because he immediately started following the trail.
She shot Max a puzzled look as she stood up and Max mouthed 'attic'.
At the mention of it, Valerie's mind snapped back to the visions he had shown her. In his childhood he seemed to have spent an awful amount of time in the attic, it would be fair to assume that's also where he attacked from.
So when they got there, they all exchanged looks of confusion when the lamp dimmed down yet again.
Valerie mirrored her earlier actions and set down the lamp in the middle of the room, sitting before it.
"You were right, when you said killing Josh made me want to kill myself too. It still haunts me to this date. There were days I was glad the accident happened, because I never would've had the guts to do it otherwise. There were also days I woke up crying, days I couldn't sleep at all."
Valerie paused for a few moments before speaking again, "You know me better than myself in that regard. You have access to the worst parts of my brain, don't you? I could feel you in there, digging, making me relive all of it."
Yet somehow, his brain was still more miserable than hers, was what she wanted to say.
"Here's how it goes now- I used to think I was at fault. I still am, for killing somebody. But over the year, I think I forgot what I went through. But I remember now. I went through it again when I was there. Seeing his blood splattered on the floor and the broken pieces of glass all over. I suddenly remembered I wouldn't just do that to anyone. But I did to him. And I did it for a reason. So it's ironic that you did that, trying to break me down and scare me off. But it kind of did the opposite." Valerie spat out all in one breath.
"I now see just how much of an asshole the both of you are. Two coward men with their desperate attempts at trying to feel powerful."
As the last syllable left her mouth, she was flung back into the wall, her head hitting it with a sickening thud. When she opened her eyes, she was already in the upside down, and Vecna in front of her.
"Took you long en-"
The rest of her sentence could only escape in choked gasps as Henry Creel dug his nails into her throat, leaving her dangling mid air.
"I don't attempt, Valerie," He sneered, "I am powerful."
The trickles of blood flowing down her collarbones silenced Valerie, speaking up wasn't going to do her any good. She had to buy her friends enough time, it was her only ticket out of this mess.
If not her, then Max. And if not Max, then any other oblivious town person. He wouldn't stop until he killed.
"Don't worry Valerie, your life won't go in vain." Valerie peered down to see a crazed far-away look in his eyes, even if he was looking at her, it was as if he didn't really see her, "Your death will break the world as you know it. You and I, we'll be the end of the world."
She had to break free, she had to buy time.
"Perhaps I'll kill you with my bare hand."
The pressure on her throat became unrelenting, constricting her airways. The torn skin and blood streaming were the least of her worries, as she let out gasps of air, hands flying to her neck trying to tear his away on instinct.
She had to stay alive, she had to buy time.
She had to remind herself that this was her brain, Henry Creel was the intruder.
She was in control.
She let go of her hands, let her body go limp like a ragdoll- except for the natural struggle for air her body let show once in a while. She clenched her eyelids shut and shuffled through all her happy memories.
That time when Dustin was born, wrapped up in a tiny blanket as Valerie became an older sister, and also the first person to hold him.
The day they adopted Mews and surprised Valerie on her birthday, and the same night when the month old kitten fell asleep in the nape of her neck.
That one time Eddie admitted to finding Valerie mean and scary.
Or perhaps that other time when Eddie said, "You're my hero, Valerie."
Definitely feeling his smile against her own for the first time.
Sleepovers with Nancy. Sneaking out with Nancy. Anything really, with her first ever best friend.
Getting drunk and watching horror movies with Steve and Robin, both of whom would curl up, screaming and hiding their faces on either side of Valerie.
Going to Hawkins High, when things used to be simpler. Going to Hawkins High with Nancy, and later on Steve. Hanging out with Dustin and his friends during lunch break. Falling on her face during a talent show, and Eddie falling in love with her.
It was a place that had them all. And that's where she decided to go back to.
[A/N: Happy 2023<33 I've been gone for quite some time now.😬
New year, I have school starting up for one. But mostly I think it's winter sending me into hibernation. All I do is go to classes and sleep. I realize these aren't excuses, let's just say I'll try to try writing more. Let's not end the story on a lousy note.🌻]
