Harwin walked me unsteadily back to my chambers through the secret passage way. I felt chills all over my spine when i thought of the words Larys spoke.
This could not be true. My whole life i've been told my mother was the realms treasure. That everyone who met her loved her. That flowers bloomed in the ground where she walked.
But it was a lie.
I sat down on my bed as Harwin stood there uncomfortably. "Would you like me to leave, miss Azalea?" he asked. I shook my head. "No... No i don't, Ser Harwin, i just... I want to ask you some questions" i said.
Harwin sighed as he sat down on the table. "Go ahead" he said. "Did you know these rumours about my family?" i asked. He paused. "I knew that your father broke his vows... I thought you did too."
"I did not... Did you know about my mother?" i questioned. "Not fully... I knew it was rumoured that she was involved in dark magic but i believe that is only rumours. I'm sure it is, Azalea" he said.
"Your probably right. It must be only rumours. Dark magic might not even be real!" i said with fake laughter. Maegor jumped on top of my bed and curled up in front of me. I smiled at him as i stroked his ears. But my smile quickly faded as i looked into his ruby red eyes.
"Unless it is" i mumbled under my breath. "What?" Harwin questioned. I sat up quickly and scrambled to my closet. I pulled out all my dresses and searched for what i was looking for.
"What are you doing!?" Harwin exclaimed. I ignored him as i kept looking. "Got it" i mumbled under my breath as i grabbed a key that was hidden underneath my jewellery
"Azalea... What are you-" Harwin exclaimed but stopped as i put my hand over his mouth. As i did, there was a small knock my door. "Are you alright, princess?" Ser Criston called out.
"Yes, Ser Criston! I'm fine!" i said. "Are you with someone, princess?" he asked. I gave Harwin an annoyed look. "No! Maegor is just... Bored! Trying to create trouble as always!" i exclaimed with fake laughter.
"Oh... Alright then, princes" Ser Criston said. I pushed Harwin back as i took my hand away from his mouth. "Keep quiet and listen to me!" i whispered through gritted teeth.
Harwin followed me as i unlocked one of the drawers in my desk. "I have been searching in every history book i can find to figure out what this is. Why i found it. Why it felt so important" i said.
I pulled out the ruby i had found the day of my wedding. "A jewel? Did you not stumble upon that by accident?" Harwin asked. "I did... But i heard something that day. It was like a voice in the back of my head telling me where to go. It led me to this and to Maegor. It was no accident."
He gave me a confused look. "What are you implying?" he asked. "What if i've been looking in the wrong books? All this time, i thought i would find answers in the history books... But maybe i would find something... In the dark magic books" i said.
Harwin shook his head as he sucked his teeth. "I don't know if that's a good idea, Azalea" he said. "Why not?" i questioned. "Those books are dangerous. Wether dark magic is real or not, those books can do something to your mind. People go crazy trying to figure these things out" he said.
"I won't go crazy. I just want answers, Harwin" i said. He shook his head. I sighed as i kneeled down in front of him and grabbed his hands. "If i feel myself changing then i will stop. I will give up" i said.
Harwin still looked unsure as he hung his head. "You have my word" i said. He looked up as he kissed my hands. "Alright. Then i will help in any way i can."
I smiled. "Find me tomorrow. I need to go to the library and see if there is any books of dark magic" i said. "Alright" he said as he stood up.
I walked him over to the secret passage as he pushed the wall open. "Until then, miss Azalea" he said. I smiled as i kissed him gently. "Until then."
