I left my chambers with Maegor at my side, troubled with every turn i took. I made sure to hold the book close to my chest, making sure there was no chance to misplace it.
I walked to Rhaenyras chambers which was guarded by Ser Criston. "Is she in?" i asked. "She's asleep, your grace" Criston said.
Maegor let his guard down as he sat at Cole's feet. Ser Criston gave him a small smile but it quickly faded as he saw my panic.
"Well, i'll wake her" i said as i banged on the door. There was silence. "Rhaenyra, it's me" i said. Silence. I tried to wiggle the door knob, but it was locked.
I knocked on the door continuously, waiting for it to open. But once again... Silence. I rolled my eyes and sighed. "Are you quite alright, your grace?" Criston asked.
"No. I am not. I am in need of the princesses advice" i mumbled. "I can always offer some advice if you need it" he said. I gave him an annoyed look at scoffed.
"Alright. Are you aware a member of the kings guard was murdered in a whore house?" i questioned. "I am aware" he said. "And are you aware he lost his two feet?" i asked.
"Well... No but i don't see why that is important, your grace" he said. I took another step towards him. "Have you seen my fathers feet before, Ser Criston?" i questioned.
Cole gulped as he look down at the ground. "So you have. And do you know the story of my mother?" i asked. He shuffled uncomfortably as he didn't dare to meet my eye.
"That is why i need the princesses advice. To figure out why the fuck this looks like a member of my family has committed the crime" i said through gritted teeth.
"I'm sure the king knows you and your family are loyal, your grace... You are married to the prince after all" he said.
"You mean the prince who has been absent for the majority of our marriage... I am not safe. That means my brother is not safe. That means my father is not safe. My family has nothing to do with this murder, but someone is trying to make it out as it was."
"You need someone to guard you, your grace. I can get someone else to keep watch of the princesses chambers. I can be at your service" he said. "I may also offer my services to you, your grace."
I turned around to see Ser Harwin. I rolled my eyes and tutted. "Thank you, Ser Harwin... But i do believe you are the commander of the city watch. The king would not be happy if you were to guard me and leave your post" i said.
"I'm sure the king would understand" he said. Ser Criston looked to me and Harwin with a confused look. I let out an annoyed groan as i stormed towards Harwin.
A small smirk came upon Harwins face as i grabbed his arm and walked off. "So... Are you in need of my service then, your grace?" Ser Criston called out. "No thank you, Criston" i called back in an annoyed tone.
I pulled Harwin by his arm until we were finally alone in one of the many hallways. "What was that?!" i exclaimed as i pushed him back. He laughed under his breath as he smiled.
"You are the commander of the city watch, Harwin. Cole would be suspicious if you ask things like that again" i snapped. "You seem upset. Why?" he asked.
"Why? You are the one who was so rude to me about Daemons return. It is not my fault he survived the war!" i whispered through gritted teeth.
"I admit, i was angry but not with you, my lady. Surprised too. After all, your husband has not written to you in years. I presumed he died in battle. So when i saw that he had returned, i knew he had come back to claim you" he said.
