SHORT VERSION
Noche and a hundred Cross soldiers are led towards the NeverAfter forest. They reach its edge supernaturally fast and find DeathTech's home base there with ten soldiers waiting. It turns out DeathTech has super soldiers that also happen to be flesh-fusing abominations. Cross and DeathTech are at a stalemate and Edward is broadcasting this fact to the world.
As the fighting ensues, Noche challenges what appears to be the leader, Baxter the bear-man hybrid. He indirectly teaches her how to use the sword, she beats him, and a giant centipede appears. She defeats that too, but it falls onto the battlefield and causes Cherries to go into a coma.
Noche attempts to sneak into DeathTech to learn more about her past, but is caught by most of her friends and general Dreg. However, Shaylin blackmails Medusa into letting the group scout further into DeathTech. They go deep underground and learn a bit about the Personification of Existence; an omnipotent being.
Turns out each floor is guarded by one of Edward's birds of death and each one has a power from the POE. The group manages to defeat each bird one by one until they get to the strongest, Raven. He reveals this was all a trap to lure Noche to the bottom of DeathTech. He leads them to the next room where Edward is waiting.
However, instead of Edward, the dark god Creeps is waiting. The two share a body and when Creeps gets too hungry it takes control. Creeps then kills Jack, severs Noche's left arm, and takes out the party one by one. The book ends with Noche bleeding to death.
LONG VERSION
Book two begins with Noche drafted into the Cross army as a company of soldiers are led toward DeathTech's supposed home base. While this occurs, Dreg fights two birds of death. Raven, who can use corruption, and Albatross, whose attacks double in power with each successful hit. The fight ends when Falcon opens up a portal for the two birds to escape in.
As Noche marches a volf, or venomous wolf, lunges at her. However, it turns out to be friendly as it licks her face. At another time June Sanctus and her sister Kat play at the beach. To celebrate June's ninth birthday her mom gifts her a knife that June's late father owned. A month later, June's mom introduces her to her mom's new friend Albert. He makes June uncomfortable.
The Cross soldiers travel through the forest to find themselves standing before the ocean which should be thousands of miles away. A holographic image of Edward appears and informs everyone that this battle will be broadcasted worldwide.
He then reveals his ten DeathTech soldiers. Not only are they much stronger than the Cross soldiers, but they fuse to any flesh they touch. As the fighting begins, Noche kills a teammate in friendly fire, but she pushes past her hesitation and charges the home base. She is stopped by a bear-man named Baxter who guards the front door.
Meanwhile, June's life takes a turn for the worse as Albert moves in and eventually molests her. Back at the battlefield Tak and Vida join the fray with immense swaths of ice and fire. During which, Medusa learns that the DeathTech soldiers can't use create. Noche fights Baxter, who almost goes out of his way to teach her how to use her new sword.
However as the fight goes on, her moves get weaker and sluggish. Cherries realizes Noche's been poisoned from when the volf licked her face. He finds and antidote and gives it to her and she gets a massive power boost. Noche defeats Baxter and a moment afterwards a giant centipede erupts from the ground below.
Noche defeats the monster by enlarging her sword to the size of a lighthouse and slamming it into the beast. It falls onto the battlefield and Cherries is hurt in the process. Noche meanwhile lands on the beach and finds a skeleton that looks remarkably familiar.
