Lily immediately grabbed her wand and said "leviosa". She made sure that all the clothes were directed at the correct place in my wardrobe. I looked at Lily with fascination, she had adjusted to wizarding life so much better than me.
I usually forgot that I was a wizard and I did everything with my hands. I wouldn't think to grab my wand and let magic do the work for me. This is something that drives Lily crazy.
When all my clothes were in the right compartment and color coded, something that was not necessary but fun to look at nonetheless. Lily clapped in her hands and said "come on, we're probably late for dinner."
I looked at the clock hanging above my bed and oh my, we were definitely late for dinner. I grabbed Lily's hand and we ran out of the common room towards the diner. We finally got to the entrance of the dining hall.
We stopped for a second to look at each other. "How do I look?" Lily asked me. I slowly looked at her appearance and responded "like you got hit by a train." Lily laughed and started fixing her clothing.
I did the same by stroking my hair flat and putting in a quick ponytail. My clothes were a little wrinkled and my tie was not knotted properly. After that we took a look at each other and decided that we both looked decent enough.
Lily pushed the large and heavy doors open and revealed the dining hall. Everyone was already seated and they were eating what looked like the most delicious meals. I could not after all this time get used to how much food there was to choose from and that it tasted amazing every time. I should thank the house elves for that when I had the time. I put it in my mental to-do list.
There were a few heads that turned our way when we walked to the Gryffindor table, but students coming in late for dinner was nothing out of the ordinary. The teachers were the ones that were really criticizing you for it, rather than your fellow pupils.
Me and Lily sat down at our usual spot with one of our other close friends from Gryffindor. She was already sitting at the table eating what seemed like mashed potatoes with sausages when she saw us. Kaia waved at us to come closer and sit next to her.
Kaia was a very short girl but she had loads of energy. She was also one of those people that never complained and almost liked everyone she met and if she did not like you, then she would not show it. She had blond hair and blue eyes.
We sat down and immediately started filling our plates with delicious goods. Kaia let us fill our plates before asking us "where were you guys?" I looked at Lily but she had food in her mouth so I decided to answer.
"I got lost on my way to Hogwarts and then I was late for our first day here. Lily helped me unpack all my stuff" I said while pointing at Lily. Kaia nodded her head and seemed to accept the answer that I had given her.
"But how did you get lost on your way to Hogwarts? Did you take a wrong turn or something?" Kaia asked me and her brows furrowed with confusion. I shrugged letting her know that I did not know how I got it wrong.
"I did get lost in the forbidden forest so something went wrong there" I told Kaia while I was cutting my sausage into little pieces. I poured some gravy over my potatoes when I heard Kaia saying in a loud voice "the forbidden forest?!"
A few heads turned our way to look at what was going on. I shushed Kaia while my cheeks were getting red from embarrassment. I usually wanted to lay low and draw as little attention as possible, but when you're friends with Lily and Kaia, it is sort of impossible.
"I know, I am glad that I did not get injured or hurt" I whispered to Kaia in a soft voice. Kaia looked almost disappointed that nothing special or exciting had happened.
I looked around the dining hall, not quite sure what I was looking for when my eyes fell on a black haired boy. He was sitting at the Slytherin table with a few of his friends I presumed since it looked like they were laughing and joking with each other.
There was another boy next to Riddle who had brown hair that almost reached the back of his ears. It was not long but it also was not short. He had blue eyes and he was talking to Tom in an excited voice.
Before I could think twice about this I said "who is that boy next to Riddle?" Kaia looked across the dining hall looking for Tom Riddle. "Oh, that's Josiah, Riddle's best friend" Kaia answered me while she grabbed her cup with pumpkin juice.
"I don't know who I dislike more, Tom or Josiah," Lily said with annoyance. She grabbed her fork and angrily started masing her potatoes. I looked at Lily in surprise, I never heard her talk bad about them before.
"Why don't you like Josiah?" I asked her curiously while peeking glances at the two of them. They seemed to be talking animatedly about something. I wondered what they were talking about.
"He called me a mudblood and told me that I should have never been accepted at Hogwarts in the first place" Lily said in a soft voice. I gasped and so did Kaia, how dare he say something atrocious like that to our friend?
"Okay, that's it, I am going to confront him" I said while standing up from the bench. I was not letting someone be mean to my best friend when she did not deserve it. Lily pulled me back down before I had the chance to walk away.
Before I had the chance to argue with her about why I should go and confront Josiah with this, I felt someone's eyes on me. I looked up and I stared into familiar blue eyes. Tom Riddle was looking at me.
