Chapter 3 - Trent

It's been a week since Quincy told me who he thought his mate was, and I was still trying to wrap my mind around it. I paced back and forth on the bedroom terrace, and I couldn't help but understand his feelings of defeat, but the entire idea was preposterous.

"It's downright despicable, and I will not allow it!!" Amir roared in my head, and I slightly shook my head in agreement. I didn't need this shit happening right now.

"Don't meddle in things that you have no control over, Amir." My Luna's soft voice called out to my wolf letting me know that she was feeling my concern.

We have been extremely busy but thank the Ancestors that all days aren't meant to be filled with bad news. In just a few short weeks, we'll be celebrating our first wedding anniversary, and in more ways than one, my wife has let it be known who's the boss around here. As usual, she was right, but I wouldn't be the man I was if I didn't try to work out several other alternatives. The past eighteen months have been hell, and this bit of news is unsettling and unneeded.

"I need a damn vacation..." Amir was just as annoyed as I was.

I took a sip of my father's trademark drink, scotch, and rubbed my temples as I felt a migraine coming on. I slowly walked back into my bedroom and was met with the sight of my wife sitting on our large bed nursing one of the triplets. It was at this moment that she was the most beautiful to me, and I was starting to get turned on at the very sight of her. Between helping my allies and protecting my own tribe, I haven't been able to really make love to my wife, and my soul was begging to speak to hers.

"Damn, we are lucky. Just looking at her is arousing." Amir growled lowly. He was rarely wrong about anything, mostly concerning our beautiful mate.

"Easy, Alpha. I'm feeding your daughter, so you must do as my darling Malaika did, and wait your turn." Jehlani's soft voice ignited me.

I inched closer to two of my most prized possessions and fell deeper in love with the sight. Everything about my mate has changed significantly since I made her my Luna and my wife, including her beautiful appearance. Since the birth of our children, her luscious brown waves have transformed into bountifully juicy curls that the she-wolves love to play in twice a week. Her skin's radiance and sheen glows like the flesh of ripe papaya, and her dazzling amethyst eyes can still light the darkest night. As my sweet daughter suckled from her mother's breast, I noticed that she had her mother's eyes, with a speckle of amber in them, and her hair mimicked mine when I was a young pup. Jehlani swears that she's going to stop breastfeeding before the children's first birthday, but every time I look up, she's either pumping or nursing. She shined like the brightest star in the galaxy.

It's been a long time since we've had a royal birth in the family, and to have my wife bear me three heirs made me feel damn good about myself. I knew my father would've been proud of this day, and thinking about him brought back the reason for my migraine.

"All the beautiful women that have passed through these halls, and his mate is Thema. Do you not understand how that complicates things?"

"I understand things have been hectic around here, but is the boy that much on the rebound to mistake the mate bond for lust? If that's the case, he's going about it all wrong." I chuckled at Amir's comment as I continued to shy away from the truth.

I tossed the scotch back, then walked to the bar to make myself another one. I've been drinking more of the special elixir since the events that took place in Texas. The things I saw Connie do to save those women made me thankful that I was a man. I sat on my father's throne and tried my hardest to gather my thoughts while Jehlani called for the nurse to take the young Alpha princess. Once the child was from her arms, she came and sat on my lap, then began to play with one of my curls.
