Song of the chapter: I Want It That Way by The Backstreet Boys
The team sans Nathan walked into Harry's office, and the sight of Nathan with his pistols out was enough to make everyone grip their guns more firmly. Of course, this didn't go unnoticed by Nathan.
"No funny business, one move and I'll drop you faster than you can say 'deez nuts'. Especially you, Bess."
"It's 6 to 1, I wouldn't be so sure of that."
"Make it 6 to 4, bitch."Nobody in the room could forget the unmistakable sound of Katyusha's AK-47 priming itself, or the click of Phoenix's flamethrower being armed.
"Oh, I invited them to the party. Even the odds a lil' bit, yeah?" Nathan said nonchalantly.
"Even the odds? You do realise it's 6 to 3, right?" taunted Bess with a smile.
"C'mon guys, I'm literally here!" whined Phobos. He'd been perched on one of the light fixtures bolted to the ceiling like a wannabe Spider-Man in a ninja-esque suit.
"Alright Nathan, cut to the chase. I know you're here for a reason, and you have 5, no, 4 minutes to explain yourself before I fill you with so much bullets you'd pass for a lump of Swiss cheese."
"Straight to the point. See, Harry? I picked Katrina as my lieutenant for a reason. Anyways, the reason I came for a visit?"Nathan pulled out a phone and played a recording.
"Good job sabotaging the fuse."
"Thank you, commander. 1 down, 6 to go."
"Keep it up, my precious spy. Soon, team Rainbow will be nothing but a relic under our new rule. Do you have any potential targets for future sabotages?"
"In fact, I do. Pay me more, and I'll see that the thorn in your side is removed."
"Good. I will contact you again when we are in need your assistance again.""Now... who does that voice belong to, Bess? Hmm?" Nathan's voice and facial expression sounded light but his eyes showed that this was anything but. "Hmm?"
"You could've edited this."
"Oh, but how about this then?"Nathan then plays a video of a security camera. The footage is undoubtedly a bit grainy, but what is obviously Bess's car stops in front of the camera, and somebody resembling Bess stepping out of the driver seat, seemingly to check something in the engine bay. Then, a man in a business suit brushes past Bess, seemingly just in a hurry, but the security cameras caught him slipping something into Bess's open palm.
"Now that, I believe, was the phone you used to contact the White Masks. For all it was worth, you aren't a good planner. You're always too reckless and impatient, well, guess how well that turned out?"
Without warning, and in the blink of an eye, Nathan was pointing one of his pistols at Bess.
"Whoa, Nathan, calm down!"
"Do I look like I care?" Nathan didn't look like he was joking. "I spent 5 fucking years, trying to do some good, but then I get backstabbed twice. I once promised I'd keep my crew safe at any costs. Well... fuck this rule."Harry looked visibly nervous, and the tension in the room was so high it could snap a steel cable in half. Nobody spoke, nobody moved a muscle, until Nathan spoke first.
"Hey, Harry. That 1 year contract I signed, it just said if I wrongfully killed someone, I'd only be kicked from Rainbow, right?"
"Well, yes, but I wouldn't recommend..."
"That's all I need to hear."Then Bess started to laugh.
"You really think killing me would solve the problem? You're wrong. Your dad has spies everywhere. Besides, you don't have the guts."
"Bess..." Nathan tightened his grip on his pistol. "You'll learn very soon, that I do have the guts."
"Well by all means, kill me then!"
"You asked for it."With lightning-quick speed, Nathan corrected his aim and fired at Bess's knees, causing her to cry out in pain and fall to the ground face-first. "You asked for it, Bess. Now you're gonna see what happens when you push a person too far." Another 2 shots rang out, and this time Bess's shoulders exploded in blood. Another shot, and a bullet went into her heart. A last bullet entered her brain at 375 m/s, effectively ending Bess's life.
It took a while before everyone else got their bearings. Harry was the most unnerved, having seen a person being shot and dying in person for the first time. The veil of silence was pierced by Nathan's jesting voice laced with venom. "Fuck around and find out, eh?"
<time skip because I want to and I don't have much time left to write this fucking thing>
A Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato sat at the main gate of Hereford Base, its rumbling engine foreshadowing the many upgrades it has received. Nathan was leaning on the door, hands in his pockets, staring at the dirt road leading away from the base. He pretended not to hear the footsteps approaching. He had been pretending all the time.
"Hey, puta."
"I'm not in the mood for one of your lectures, Taina."
"I'm not here to lecture you."
"I thought Harry told y'all to stay the fuck away from me, as if I'm emotionally unstable. Heh, maybe I am."
"Nathan, why?"
"What? You would've done the same thing, and don't deny it."
"I wouldn't, and we both know it."
"Sure, whatever."They stood there in silence for a while.
"So, Taina, you mind doing something for me?"
"Yeah?"
"Pass on the word to Katrina: tell her to keep my crew in order. And don't let anybody touch my cars."
"Okay... what about you?"
That question made Nathan pause.
"That's a good question, now. What am I gonna do now?"They were interrupted by a recruit manning the guard posts at the gate.
"Oi, hothead, time to skedaddle!"
"Well, guess I'll see ya when I see ya."
"Take care, Nathan."
"I wouldn't be so sure of that."Taina was about to ask Nathan what he meant exactly, but the roar of the Italian V10 made her recoil. Then, the Lamborghini sped down the dirt road, the gate closing with a clang, All that was left behind, were a trail of tire tracks in the dirt and a mini dust cloud, slowly receding into the distance.
And then there was silence.
<The end... for now>
Okay, this ending is too abrupt, but I wanna focus on studies first because I'm immigrating to the land of maple syrup and ice hockey and weed, aka Canada. So I'll come back when I have time. For now, the book will stay like this. Ciao.
