chapter eight

billy;

the blue eyed california boy stands in front of his mirror, smirking away while music blasts in the background.

billy hargrove was getting all decked out for a date he had with katrina hopper tonight. the way the call ended earlier, the boy wanted to take the girl somewhere nice and talk.

he really really liked her and he felt really really bad.

while blowing out the smoke from his cigarette, a knock was heard on his door and he sighed when he heard the voice of his stepmother, "billy?!"

"yeah, i'm a little bit busy in here, susan." he replied, hoping she'd just go away.

"open the door. right now." his father snapped.

billy placed down his cigarette and walked over to the door, opening it and now stands face to face with his asshole father and his stepmother.

"what's wrong?" the boy asked.

"why don't you tell us?"

"because i don't know." billy snapped.

"we can't find maxine," susan said, "and her windows open."

billy looked away. he had absolutely no idea where his stupid stepsister was and he didn't give a shit. all he wanted to do was go and be with katrina.

his father noticed, "where is she?"

"i don't know."

"you don't know?" he scoffed.

"look, i'm sure she just, i don't know, went to the arcade or something," billy said, walking over to his closet and grabbing a jacket, "im sure she's fine."

"you were supposed to watch her."

"i know, dad. i was," billy sighed, pulling his jacket on, "it's just you guys were three hours late and, well, i have a date."

"im sorry, okay?"

"that's why you've been staring at yourself in the mirror like some jackass instead of watching your sister?" his father questioned.

"i have been looking after her all week, dad. okay? she wants to run off, then that's her problem, all right? shes 13 years old. she shouldn't need a full-time babysitter. and she's not my sister!"
