"C'mon Tobio, ask him out already," Miwa begs. She's sick and tired of watching Kageyama mope around the house because of this boy. "I'm sure he'll say yes."

"But what if he doesn't," Kageyama replies stubbornly and Miwa controls the urge to roll her eyes.

"Please," she gives him her best puppy dog eyes. "For me?"

"Fine," Kageyama agrees. But only for Miwa's sake. Not because he wants to go on a date with Hinata.

Oh who is he kidding, of course he does. But what if Hinata says no? Kageyama is ninety percent sure that Hinata's feelings for him are purely platonic. He's also ninety percent sure that Hinata is straight. So he probably will say no.

But Kageyama can deal with that later. Right now, he needs to come up with a date to actually ask Hinata on. Kageyama's never been on a date before, so he doesn't know what people do on dates.

After brainstorming for over an hour, the best thing Kageyama can think of is a movie. That's it. It's probably a lame idea but hey, it's all he could come up with so he has to work with it.

Kageyama decides to ask Hinata after practice. That way, once he's rejected, he won't have to see Hinata for the rest of the day.

The day goes by far faster than Kageyama would have liked, and before he knew it, he's cleaning up the gym with Hinata, feeling very anxious.

"Hinata," he calls and the orange haired boy turns to look at Kageyama. Kageyama takes a deep breath. You can do this. "Would you, um. Would you like to see a movie with me this weekend?" Kageyama is proud that he managed to actually get out the sentence.

Hinata doesn't say anything for a moment before smiling excitedly. "Sure! I'd love to!"

Kageyama is shocked. Did Hinata really just say yes to going on a date with him? "O-ok," Kageyama says, smiling a little bit. Inside, he's freaking out.

They finish cleaning up the gym and head home. Once Kageyama is home, he tells the good news to Miwa. "Yay! I'm so happy for you! Would you like me to drive you guys?"

"Sure," Kageyama says. He feels himself getting excited. He's going on a date. With Hinata. Holy shit. He's going on a date with Hinata.

Well, he thought he was. The rest of the week had flown by and before Kageyama knew it, it was Saturday. Kageyama texted Hinata to let him know that he was on his way to pick him up.

Miwa drives to Hinata's house and once they arrive, Hinata and Yachi walk out the door. Kageyama feels his heart drop, the excited feeling leaving his body all at once.

Hinata and Yachi get into the car. "Hi Kageyama's sister!" Hinata greets Miwa. Then he turns to Kageyama. "It was so nice of you to invite me to hang out with you, Kageyama-kun. I brought Yachi-san, I hope you don't mind."

Kageyama can feel his throat burning. That's why Hinata said yes. He thought they were just hanging out. He never would have said yes if he knew what Kageyama was actually asking.

"Uh yeah. That's fine."

Miwa looks at her brother sympathetically and he gives a weak smile back. She drives them to the theater and drops them off. "Call me when you want me to pick you up," she says to Kageyama.

The three of them walk into the theater, Kageyama dragging his feet. Of all people why did he have to bring Yachi? Not that Kageyama has a problem with the blonde manager. It's just, he still thinks that Hinata might like her, and he hates it.

Kageyama tries to pretend like he's having fun, but it's hard when Hinata keeps laughing with Yachi over everything that happens in the movie. He's secretly glad once the movie is over.

They walk to get ice cream and take a seat at a table outside. Hinata gets a text from his mom. "Oh, my mom is on her way to pick me up," Hinata says. "Apparently one of my aunts unexpectedly came to visit."

Yachi looks at Kageyama. "Can I catch a ride with you Kageyama-kun?" she asks timidly. "I think my mom is at work right now."

Kageyama sighs. "Yeah that's fine," he says, trying not to sound too annoyed. He feels bad for being rude to Yachi, he really does. He knows that Yachi is shy around people. Kageyama texts Miwa to come pick them up.

Hinata's mom arrives first, leaving Yachi and Kageyama sitting by themselves. It's quiet for a moment before Yachi bursts out suddenly, "This was supposed to be a date, wasn't it."

Then she looks terrified as if she hadn't meant to say it out loud. "Oh! Um I'm sorry! I'm just assuming things, that was rude of me."

"It's fine," Kageyama says quickly. He looks at Yachi with a tired look in his eye. "You're right. It was. Supposed to be."

Yachi smiles at Kageyama sadly. "I'm sorry Kageyama-kun. I wouldn't have come if I had realized. And I'm sure Hinata wouldn't have invited me if he had realized."

"It's not your fault," Kageyama tells her. Then he laughs bitterly. He pulls a black beaded bracelet out of his pocket. "I even got him a gift," he scoffs.

"Give it to him," Yachi says. "I mean- you should give it to him. I'm sure he'd appreciate it."

Kageyama looks at Yachi for a moment. "No, it's ok," he reaches the bracelet in Yachi's direction. "You can have it."

Yachi throws her hands up. "Oh no! I couldn't!" When she sees the look on Kageyama's face, she takes the bracelet, slipping it on her wrist. "Thank you, Kageyama-kun. For what it's worth, I know what it's like having a crush on your best friend. I've liked Kiyoko ever since I became a manager."

Kageyama looks at Yachi to see his own pained eyes being reflected back at him. "I'm sorry, Yachi-san."

"For what?"

"For being angry at you."

"It's ok Kageyama." Yachi smiles at Kageyama. "You're sister's here."

She grabs Kageyama's hand, pulling him up and walking with him to the car. Kageyama looks at Yachi gratefully. Maybe this date didn't work out, but at least he gained a special connection with someone else.
